*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Spoke to the Nokia Sales line today they still say by the end of August but online Chat says that they will be available mid Sept but the preorders will ship sooner. Who to belive????

I too am in the "in progress" realm for my first Nokia, I'm coming over from a SE C905 which I already sold so right now I'm using an old SE S710a, I think that I'm already regretting my first Nokia purchase and I haven't even received my phone. Hurry TF Up Nokia

Actually, you got me - I hated it on the N95!
It somehow got pushed every time I docked it into my ProClip holder, and it would take 10-15 seconds before I got my phone back.

The problem with the N86 8MP though is that both the Multimedia key and the Gallery key are gone, which means that there is no quick way to access either the Music Player or the Gallery. Unless you use up two of the 6 available Active Standby shortcuts to do so.

Other than that - I see only improvements in the N86. :) I love the N85 I just got, but I now also hate it for its build quality - I'll write a separate thread about that once I take some pics. (Suffice it to say that the display cover is not sealed properly, and I got a lot of dust under it. :( )

Does anyone have any firm information as to when the NAM will ship?? I just got a new N85 from Amazon but if this ships before the 30 days return is up I may return the N85 and get the N86. I have also noticed that as of yesterday Amazon has removed the Euro N86 that they were selling, it is no where to be found on their site. Maybe a sign of thing's to come!!!! :2thumbs:

No. If you don't have a data plan, disable them, as it will make data requests. How else do you expect it to pull co-ordinates from the supplying server?

-keys on the keyboard are stiff, but they feel good to touch
-internet radio did not work, like others have stated..so bummed about this
-I'm able to have the browser, mobbler (streaming music), and the video center open with no problems. Memory management seems up to the task.
-slider is good, but of course not perfect; there is a tiny bit of play, but you won't even notice it like on the N95-3/4

I'm liking the phone so far, and can't wait to test out the camera tomorrow-

BTW, I purchased a Hava Titanium HD last week and the S60 Hava Player works perfectly for remote live TV viewing over 3G o the N86. It is a wee bit small of course but will be of some use during the Olympic hockey tournament . I just watched some American trash TV on it. :)

Just got off the phone with nokiausa, apparently they don't have the phone yet. at all. And they have no clue when they're getting it. I feel like I'm searching for el chupacabra just to find out when it's shipping. seriously, it's driving me mad.

after just telling the agent that "i could cancel and buy it from the flagship store" he seemed to be more than happy to accommodate that, saying "would you like to cancel your order?"

I guess I'll just have to be patient for a while. Can anyone tell this is my first smart phone? :D

wow is that the new conversations version? doesnt look too bad. i like how it adds an extra tab in the contacts app. i wish nokia would hurry up and release this app for s60v5 phones.

Yes, the N86's pictures do get compressed. To have good colour accuracy the sensor needs to increase the amount of colour compensation. This makes noise worse. For v11, strong noise reduction was used to compensate for it. Changes were made in v20 improving detail without affecting noise. Processing time is also longer with a larger file size. A larger image file may just have more noise and less detail.

Like Prom said, I haven't seen the winner of this award before until the N86. Another notch in the marketing belt around the N86, I suppose. Frankly, I'm thinking of getting the Wing 2 and keeping the N95 as a backup/camera. On top of that, the SE C905 passed through the FCC as the CS8 complete with TMO's 3G bands. A little debranding and there's my 8 MP camera with xenon flash :buddies:
