*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Thanks for the tip, it works. But does your camera respond when you hold down the camera button normally? Mine focuses and lock on but won't take the pic.

I agree, I am starting to think the only way Nokia will do this is if there sales drop drastically, because competitors are offering xenon/3G phones. But at that point they will have to win back some consumers.

Does anyone else think that it is odd that Nokia has not announced a new candybar phone?

Do you think they would really drop that form factor from its lineup?

Hmm, I'll have to check that out. I still buy CD's. I have 100's of CD's. There are some songs that I'll get a copy of from friends. But I don't believe in "stealing" songs. Musicians work really hard to create an album, so I'll continue to support the artists I like. Yes, MJ passing away is truly sad. I'm still in shock. RIP MJ. :(

Ok, back to Nokia. :D

I'm guessing you hack the firmware and change the shutter noise value to something that the phone doesn't recognize. I remember doing it on a few phones.

For example, if you have selection for 1-3, you change the value to 4.

I'm all speculation though. Don't pay attention to my wack-job hacking.

While your on the topic, How many phones has Nokia produced since the N82, that didnt have NAM 3G? I dont keep track of all of them. Why was the N82 the only one left out of the NAM 3G party??

A forum is one place(and often the only place) people like us have to vent and let our grievances be known. Besides, I think SR's rants are amusing. Anyway, I wonder when Nokia plans on releasing this thing, for how much and whether or not it'll still be relevant at that time.

thats because fo the 28mm lens. Qualtiy of the lens is bad, theres alot of distortion. The multiple apertures doesn't mean a thing either. Due to diffraction in a smaller aperture the pictures acutally get softer, this usually would apply to the DSLR around f8-11 but since this is a camera phone f/4.8 is already too small. Not to mention it bumps your shutter speed up.

Initial quality is poor. Noise reduction like a SE, no resolved detail like its predeseccor the N82/N95. Bad algorithms and such have given the N86 8MP a bad initial showing. I'm not speaking for FINAL quality but initial quality is downright poor.

Nokia---Check out the noise reduction~it almost looks like water colour, its not living up to the n95 and certainly not the n82. I might as while note that there seems to be back focusing. The orange isn't sharp, its the crate >

That is so true and I never understood the logic behind it. If anything the handset should have better noise cancellation than a bluetooth headset or they both should be the same. I agree that Motorola continues to strive in this area. The V9x has excellent noise cancellation. However that's cancelled once you use a bluetooth headset. I don't know why they can't make the two work together.

I think it's plausible although I thought it was being released closer to the end of June rather than July and for FAR less than the 649 Euro price tag. Nokia stated that the N86 would retail for 375 Euros which roughly translates to 495 USD.

ok so i just got a n85. since the software is similar to the n86. i have 1 ?.

how do you delete web pages that are open. im on wifi and i have the nokia home page and 5 other facebook pages open. how do i delete the ones that i dont need.

If you don't have a data plan, and don't have data access blocked, then you will get charged for the data transfer that the GPS servers provide. This amounts to less than 5 kB each time you start up Ovi Maps, SportsTracker, geotagging of photos, or the built-in GPS app. Depending on your pay-per-use rate, this may be a few cents to several $.

Google Maps is a different deal, and will use a large amount of data since the map tiles are downloaded OTA and not stored on the phone.

If it's a concern, you should disable A-GPS and delete the server name from the Positioning server setting.
