Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

i dont really have any gap above the volume rocker. it looks the same as the rest of the phone at that part of the outter casing.

anyway its amazing how light weight this phone is. and the size is close to perfect. i actually didnt like the e71 when i had to hold it to my ear during a call. because it was so slim it was ergonomically difficult for my large hands to grip the phone around the sides. others probably disagree though.

man i'm really bugging about the speaker distortion. perhaps i update the firmware will help? is there even a NAM firmware update available? off to searching i go...

I just did it as instructed.Had no problem, thanks alot. Now my FV is 31.2.008
Now if I want to check for updates it takes me straight to Nokia update server.
Unfortunately my other problem has not been fixed. When I try to access gmail or ovi mail using native email client it gets stuck on 'testing network connection" message.Any remedy for that?

What the Nokia commenter said was you can't load an entirely new OS, because the OS has to be running the firmware update.

WinMo doesn't update the entire OS, just the rom/firmware.

The OS itself has to be running to actually update your phone.

You misunderstood.

It will not happen, and anybody expecting it is silly. Why would Nokia even bother with firmware updates if they were going to spend hundreds of hours giving us a new OS?

Yep...

Actually, mine is all pretty much creak-less on the front... but the back battery door makes noise at times. No biggie to me, at least with this phone. I've actually had it longer than any phone for a LONG time and it's getting comfortable now (in other words, I'm not stressing being SOOO damn careful with it as much, etc etc)

My first post on the 5800, and I have to say I'm tickled so far! I have been jonesing for a touch screen since I hung up my old Handspring Pro (mummledy) years ago - and I was never into thumbboards for input, though I did have one for the Pro. Besides, I now have a foldout Bluetooth keyboard for blogging and such.

From that perspective, this is da bomb! I even found a (very basic) paint program called Paint Pad at the Hong Kong Nokia site , that is also available at the Nokia MOSH site - don't try the other one on the MOSH site, it's even more basic than Paint Pad.

I downloaded a bunch of the free apps to try out, some work, some don't. The Torch app utilizes the dual LEDs on the camera, and worked perfectly. There's some games, including Sudoku at the HK site (which I've wanted on my phone for a while :clapping: ) that work well.

As far as Youtube Videos go, they are easier to watch on the phone than my PC (running XP), which keeps clogging up. Then again, I'm using my phone as my modem via Bluetooth. That said, I'm getting faster download speeds on my Unlocked 5800 than I did on my enslaved AT&T N75.

I called last week to try to get it (the N75) unlocked and ran into troubles since it is Legacy, Legacy - they have no records of me buying it (I bought it via AT&T just before the Cingular changeover, then have been with them thru the change back to the Evil Empire, uh, AT&T).

I'm actually pretty pleased with the Nokia Web client. Does anyone have a clue how to import my Firefox bookmarks to my phone?

I just received my brand new Nokia 5800 directly from NOKIAUSA on Friday. I noticed that the Nokia box that the phone is packaged in does NOT have the Nokia sealed tape on the lid of the box where you open the box. I would like to know whether or not the 5800 that NOKIAUSA sells comes with a sealed lid with the tape on the lid? When I opened up the box I didn't notice anything being "used". The 5800 phone itself was inside a plastic baggie and the phone had the protective tape on it on the touchscreen and on the back camera lens.
Has everybody else in here who has purchased the 5800 directly from NOKIAUSA received their 5800 "without" its exterior box sealed with tape on the lid like I did? I would like to know. I want to make sure that I didn't get a refurbished phone from NOKIAUSA because I got mine during the price glitch that happened on the NokiaUSA website back in the beginning of May. The other reason why I need to know about this is because I also received my N97 from NOKIAUSA and the lid on the N97 box has a seal on it in the form of a small piece of tape on the lid on the box.
Thanks

Honestly, after using Euro RM-356 firmware, Iv'e noticed that it is much faster in the browser. This one in NAM takes forever. I wanna switch back.

Hi, i need to send my 5800 to the repair center in Nokia due to my screen not turning on. However, before i do that, i want to back up my contacts. Is there a way for me to back it up onto the memory card? i tried SIM card, but apparently i have too many contacts.

I would prefer not to use something like Googlesync unless it will retain all the information about my contacts when i get my 5800 back from the repair shop

Right now i am able to see whats on the phone by using the tv out plug.

Thanks a lot!

You need to search for the directions on how to setup dead usb on Phoenix. I don't have a link for you. The connection does not depend on the phone reading the usb.

i think you're mistaken. that number is the signal strength of the satellites from 1-10, with 10 being the best. it's not the number of satellites that are locked onto your position. and you really only need 3 to get a real accurate reading of where you are.

Full screen in the native browser is by options > display options > full screen. There may also be a shortcut, but I don't use it since I don't like the native browser much. I like Opera Mobile and Mini a lot more, they're super.

There is no kinetic scrolling in the native browser. There is in Opera. But the native browser has flash and Opera doesn't. Oh well you can't have everything!
