Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

^ i did. it worked well for the first 3 days, then it started to make my phone really slow. it would always show that my ram is like around 44. but the way it opens apps and stuff made me think otherwise. removed it, without restarting the phone and it's fine again.

if you have a taskman (handy/jb), it does the same thing pretty much.

OK, I looked again. There is no DVD, mini or full size. Also, a couple of other items may be missing, unless they changed the contents without changing the description on the box. There is no car charger, and also missing is the little remote control thingie (audio controller).

The keyboard in the example I provided is pretty great actually, I've used it, its nice, the different keyboard layouts are actually very useful for deciding between short and long messages.
The video on their site for some very dumb reason however, doesn't showcase the keyboard in landscape.

Clean looking, with options on a bar along the top, as well as having predictive text come in along the top of the keyboard as you type.

I'm not sure what you saw that you thought wasn't impressive, but that keyboard is great.

Here's another example of it in action.

Beats the 5800.

Dont put the phone in gsm only mode. You still want to use the 3g network, you just wont use data. But the 3g voice network is better to use even if you arent going to use data on it.

I've noticed some odd behavior with firmare 40.2.005. Randomly, this firmware will alternate between the normal 4 boxes when a call comes in (the answer, silence, mute buttons, etc) but every once in a while, I see a slide to answer rectangle on the screen.

It doesn't have anything to do with the phone numbers being in my phone book or not as I had this same number call me back but couldn't things returned to normal on the second incoming call. It's similar to the Iphone slide answering control and is looks identical to Nokia's new alarm clock stop and snooze controls.

One other momentary glitch that I noticed occured when I recieved a text mesasge, the message inbox only showed the phone number it was from instead of the person's name. This person's number is already saved in my phonebook and he sent another text message to me but the second time, the messaging menu properly showed his name.

I find the voice dialling unusable. There are few hundreds contacts in my phone, many of them foreign names that the phone cannot pronounce. I mean I would not be able to understand the name myself from its pronunciation and as result I cannot reproduce it and cannot use voice dial.

I rather prefer to record voice tag for the few names that I use all the time. Is there anyway of going back to the old Nokia ways of recording voice tags? I really hope that the answer is "yes" as it's rather trivial to do, though I am beginning to worry that it's "either Nokia's way or the highway"...

I'm having this little problem with my ovi map. I recently updated my 5800 nam to v40 and used the ovi suite to installed the latest map with text to speech, but for some reasons the text to speech doesn't show up in the voice guidance, anyone know what's wrong? thx
