AZ: Truck driver forced to show birth certificate claims racial-profiling

keep reading, either he crossed a border or was in that zone where ICE can check you. You need a birth certificate/passport if you are driving CDL.

Do you not realize yet that they still have to have reasonable suspicion AFTER detaining you for another crime before they can then ask for proof of citizenship?

Considering that the law specifically says that an AZ DRIVERS LICENSE will suffice as ID, Mr. Abdon "who did not want to use his last name" is most likely lying through his ass as to what happened. Since he was pulled over (in his vehicle), he has to provide proper ID while operating a CDL vehicle.

A representative at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) returned 3TV’s calls after researching the incident and she said this was standard operating procedure.

The agents needed to verify Abdon was in the country legally and it is not uncommon to ask for someone's birth certificate. She also said this has nothing to do with the proposed bill or racial profiling.

Once again, 7th Circlejerk doesn't have his facts in order before posting.
 
For the 101th fucking time, you don't NEED to carry your birth certificate when driving (either now in AZ .. or anywhere in the country as a trucker, or in AZ when the new law goes into effect).
 
but you were the one that posted an article from mid Apr, about a Federal officer, claiming it has something to do with Arizona's law that hasn't even taken affect.
 
Nobody, that's my point. If you are driving and pulled over, your freedom is not infringed upon when an officer demands to see your identification.

People in this thread have been discussing whether or not we're a "police state" because they don't understand this. To them, there is no difference when you are pulled over in a car vs. when you are stopped on the street.
