Transformers is Fantastic!!!!!

Better than em all!! The likes of StarTrek/StarWars/Stargate never really interested me....anything with Star in the title I tend to avoid.... Matrix was'nt my thing, on account of it being ridiculous, and GROUNDHOG DAY!? Are you SURE? :D

We all like different thjings I guess!
 
For a majority of us adults that are in our 30's, we grew up with Transformers and loved them.
So of coarse were gonna want to see it.
My wife and were on You Tube last week and watched a collaboration of 80's TV intros which brought back so many memories with alot of OH! WOW's
 
I think what alot of people don't understand about Transformers is that even if Hasbro stopped making the toys, the comics, which have superb art and characterisation, would continue as they have a life of their own. Grimlock and Shockwave were joke characters in the cartoon, in the comics they are absolutely classic characters; the ruthless, violent, reluctant good guy and the twisted Mr' Spock.

I sat through the first hour and 45 with a big smile on my face.

All of that was good to very good - but the last 45...like Phazer said - were something of a mess.

I thought the bulk of the film was good. I don't know how much Spielberg had to do with the film - but I certainly felt he had an influence on it.

The Sam - Bumblebee stuff felt like it had his hand all over it, and the humour worked well. I loved the sequence with the Autobots in the Sam's back yard. It was simply very funny.

There's no doubt that Prime was Prime. He speech-ified regularly and kept wanting to die - like classic Prime always does. In fact - during his speeches - I was bored. Like I have been through most of his speeches.

The Con's were very dull though. Megatron wasn't even a one-note villain.

I liked Frenzy though - he was very much a Spielberg-type innovative, irritating cute villain.

But the only critisism I would have is the action sequences. They sucked. Big time (sadly).

Why was the big Prime - Megatron confined to being mostly off-screen?

Jazz's death was too fast as well.

But - it is Bay's best film. And it showed that, tempered, his film's can have a good sense of pacing and humour (which I think we knew anyway - Armagedden is fracking hilarious).

It's just the action sequences he can't do. I wish Spielberg had done a Revenge of the Sith and handled those.
 
Yeah but then back then the only way to get to New Zealand was by bike (possibly).

It's funny because this is quite a geeky film, or at least one that people with no prevailing morals really want to (pay to) see, so you'd think they'd open world wide as soon as possible. Or said people might download it. With the advent of modern technology (boats and those plane things) it seems betterer to open world wide on the same day (or at least, quite close together).

I loved it when I was a lass! I do think though is I watched the cartoon now, I would be severely disappointed, as i was with Thundercats :sleep:
 
I'm very split about this film... and I'm quite amazed that the vast majority of people are really bigging it up.

First, the positives:

1. The 'Transformers'. Felt that they all worked really well, not too concerned that Bumblebee wasnt a VW - thought he was pretty cool. Prime was cool, even Megatron, and i thought he looked naff prior to seeing the film.

2. Concept of having Megatron in storage was relatively cool.

3. Tranforming wasnt as bad as I imagined it would be.

4. Initial sequence at the airbase was cool.

Negatives:

1. Where were the battles... We saw Bumblebee commence a fight with Barricade, but the it then switched to a battle between a ridiculously fast and blurred! robot fighting with Sam and Mikaela. And please dont say he was like that cause his name was Frenzy!! Suddenly, we see Bumblebee recovering from fight, and Barricade lying there looking sullen!?

2. How did a quiet little 'eastern' village hold off Scorponok for so damn long. Blackout near to knocked out an airbase in seconRAB, whereas Scorponok got a real battle!!!

3. Sector Seven - cool idea, but why were they a bunch of goons? Where was the need for Sam to be able to strip em down - purely for comedy?? Is this really a children's film - see point 3a!

3a. Children film right!? Then where does the mention of masturbation come into a childrens film? Im astonished that this got in there, when Spielberg was involved!? It wasnt humours - it was bad taste in my mind.

4. Autobots acting like idiots in the garden!? Would they give a damn about the garden. Would they be tip-toeing, and saying "oops".. "let me kill the animals"????

5. Like someone's said above, the army seemed to have more impact that the Autobots... Where were the massive battles, where humans could do nothing but look on? Bay just seemed to have transformers flying through the air, somersaulting, hitting the ground, and stuff, whilst the army did the battle, sliding beneath robots, and blowing 'em up!?

6. Where was Starscream!! Got SO little screen-time!!

7. Jon Voight running!!! Please no, leave that to your daughter Jon!

8. Why didnt Prime take the cube, and get it away from the City!! Why did the Army need to be involved, when Starscream et al could've taken them out in seconRAB.

That's a few of my points. Overall, I'd say maybe 5/10 Could have down so much better.

In my mind, remove some of the filler sequences - Masturbation, Finding the glasses/autobots destroy the garden, parents, etc... and replace with decent character building on the film's characters!!
 
I think it looks fantastic. Although, I am a sucker for a good, overblown, special-effectsy film :D

Just a tiny bit too young to remember the original, but that doesn't bother me, as I assume they'll go over the backstory (I hope they will at least)

it's a clever film about the 7 stages of reaching nirvana... with a furry chipmunk in it!

I honestly love this film!
 
Oh - i meant Batman took ages to open in the uk. ive just moved to NZ!!!

But i thought that was the situation. certainly over the last few years, blockbuster films have opened world wide together to prevent naughty pirates being made. Pitates of the Caribean 3 certainly opened the same day around the world (i saw that one at the Empire in Great Yarmouth, not as cool as Hoytes in NZ!!!)
 
It does seem strange why Transformers didnt get a worldwide release date and the fans in the UK now have to wait 4 weeks to see it. Although I read that there are preview screenings on the 21st and 22nd of July!
 
This was on Superherohype about Transformers 2:

"Despite a recent comment from Transformers director Michael Bay that the studio hasn't been going full speed ahead on a sequel because of the possible strike next year, Paramount Pictures has now set a June 26, 2009 release date for Transformers 2. It is unclear who all will return for the sequel, as far as crew and cast members."
 
Just got back from seeing this and the only 2 worRAB I can sum this movie up is:

"Totally Amazing"

One of the best action film I've since for a long long time and the best special effects film I've since. I can't think of one single film where the CGI could beat this one.

Just checked IMDB and the yanks are at it again... every single time I come back from the cinema having watched a film which I thought was excellent, I check IMDB and the amount of posts calling it "One Of The Worst Movies Of All Time" or "This Movie SUCKS!!!!!!!!!"..

"Hot Fuzz, Die Hard 4.0" and now this.
 
I managed to see this film at a secret screening a few days back and I gotta say that it is the mutts nuts, I cannot wait to see it again when it offically gets released and when the dvd comesout :D

I have seen it but its one of those films that now Ive seen it, I very much doubt I'll watch it again!

Transformers on the other hand, I shall watch many times.....:)
