Somalia: A haven for private business

it seems like a rediculous way to go about it. I know somalia is popular place to make fun of but in reality it's a lot more complicated- just because there is no functioning national government doesn't mean there is no government.

a better example would have been one of many countries that have national governments but ones that are not able to enforce their laws very effectively, except to keep basic order and national identity. I'm moving to one of these and I have no regrets
 
i think we ought to bring civilization to somalia. like welfare. that way the pirates can sleep easy even if they failed to rob a yacht on the first of the month.
 
That means the US could be a libertarian paradise since there is a government strong enough to protect from foreign invaders and punish individuals that infringe on another individual's freedoms.

Anything that fundamentally violates a persons Constitutional rights is not reasonable in my opinion.

Civil rights are reasonable until it tells private citizens what to do when associating with people. If I don't like someone because he has red hair, I shouldn't have to service their needs. They can go somewhere else.
 
Wouldn't we be impeding on their rights as businesses if we stopped those multinationals from hiring those private security forces? Isn't it anti-business otherwise? Who is the government to dter outside influences? Isn't it a business's right to have those influences if it so chooses, just like it's a business's right to pick and choose who it serves based on ethnicity?

I see your point. I'm making a point that libertarianism is an impossible philosophy.
 
this is why american civilians need to band together, invade that pissant country and form a new one. i bet we can get some american indians to join our crusade
 
so do you dispute the results of that study then? Have you actually been to somalia or just seen pictures?
 
You mean like racists who run a business and don't want to serve someone?

you have no idea what you are talking about, there is so much organized crime that gets mixed up with the peace keeping forces, not to mention if you actually take a shot at them, they WILL shut your ass down
 
Sure. If you are a large enough entity to pull those strings then Somalia is a great place to be. I didn't mean to argue otherwise.

See above. I didn't mean that it was a bad idea for everybody- just that you need to be able to have enough clout in Somalia (or anywhere in Africa) in order to stick around for long.


There's quite a few countries that are basically anarchist unless you are a large, important company, in which case it's kind of a crap shoot and depends on the mood of the government at any particular time. You could probably argue that libertarianism is difficult or impossible to achieve for every type of organization simultaneously at any given time, but for individuals it's quite doable.
