There's a big convergence tariff involved. A $200 phone, $200 camera, and $200 touchscreen MP3 player could arguably beat the N97 in each aspect rather handily.
 
well its easy for me because i am using a 5800 right now, and this device is phenominal. so an n97 is everything i have, plus camera qwerty and a storage, etc. so its kinda a no brainer for me. i love this 5800 a lot, so n97 can only be better.

my 5800 CPU is adequate for everything i've thrown at it. the n97 has 60mhz more, so that can only be better. that's my thinking anyway. personally i think you're over thinking things to an extent, getting caught up in every minor detail comparison this device vs that feature. just gotta look at the n97 as the best all around package you can get. the ONLY other possibly choice is the omnia, which shouldnt even be a thought cause no 850 3g. otherwise, nothing decent compares. new iphone? weaker camera. touch pro 2? no camera flash.

the choice seems obvious to me. and remember, the n97 CPU is the fastest we've had from nokia to date. lets not forget that, its not like its the same as previous or gone backwards. its still been increased over the 5800! so its still faster than any other nokia before it. just didnt increase as much as the omnia.
 
It's going to hurt with the browser though-I am going to expect a bit of crashing/out of memory errors there. S60 is great at multitasking but my got memory errors pretty often the way I used it and it looks like this might suffer the same way.

Apple's going to have to get more ram if they want multitasking no doubt-OSX is so bloated in terms of ram consumption. However, I'm pretty sure they'll be smart enough to add more ram.

I just compared the memory spec of the N97 to the 5800 and realized they both have 256MB NAND and 128MB RAM Memory.

Guess my last ray of excitement on specs is now gone... :reallysad

And I just brought 1000 shares of Nokia today... :doh:

Hope there's enough dumb users who will make this device a success; anybody who's a tech geek would really think hard before picking this one up now.

In all cases, I still support Nokia and will be buying a N97. :buddies:
 
It's apple. The day it gets announced the internet is going to come to a halt as steve jobs' reality distortion field covers the atmosphere. Millions will flock to apple stores to stare at their new matte black overlords.
 
Ahh, so what you're saying is, since Nokia is the leader in S60 (and so most people will program only for Nokia phones), they should be the ones to release the best hardware to spur development! Right?

This DOES have something to do with Nokia as a company. I failed to see this before.

This whole time sounds like you're just bashing N97 for not being up to par with Samsung's offering.

I hope I'm right... >.>
 
i will if i can play my old nes/snes classics. most cell phone games lack the development that come to the platforms, but emulators + n97's form factor will bring some great games to the phone.
 
I paid close attention to that video, I actually saw the part over and over again when she was putting keyboard with her hands and I was like did she even make the keyboard sit properly, she did not even look down properly for alignment,no way to know for sure that the machine did everything later.I don't know what's up with N series quality nowadays.Why can't Nokia make E class N series?A 700$ phone's build quality and materials should be 5 times better than E71 IMO.
 
Without base? More like arguments that can't be sufficiently handled by anyone or haven't been cared to. Maybe because these arguments are clear and valid?

Instead of denouncing me as a hate-monger, why don't you enlighten me and show me why I am wrong?

In my past dozens of posts I have gone from excitement for the N97 to disillusionment. I have reasons to believe that its chances of greatness are illusory (though those still shackled to S60 will still eat it up, and thus it will at least be successful).

EDIT: So you're just telling me that other OSes start out weak when they at least have linear channels for improvement across their products. Why shouldn't the mighty market-share-ruling S60 at least have some way of competing in terms of operating system updates? That's just qualifying Nokia's negligence in this sector.
