You must have nails.
But anyway, I think the concept of having 3 widgets in the space of one is really the only solution to this issue. My question is how can I combine the 3 widgets I want into that space.
Will there be a tool for users to combine their widgets into that space, or do I have to hope that someone else in the world is simultaneously interested in current NYC weather, Google Stock price and Current Terrorism Alert Color?
You may be able to write your own widgets but I do not. I could learn perhaps to make my custom widgets and if it really is as simple as tweaking 3 independent widgets and cutting and pasting code I would do it. But I won't go out there and learn a programming language to do it.
Do you think for example I could put both my appointments and e-mail notifications in the same widget side by side or maybe display e-mail when an unread e-mail is in the inbox but otherwise show only appointments? Do you know if we have that level of flexibility with internal phone data?
Basically I think the widgets idea is great but I truly feel its potential is squandered by having internal and external widgets share space on only one screen.
If it so easy to make widgets for any conceivable data source, then having them compete with essential data (for me) like e-mail, and contacts for space was simply a poor decision. Really even if I could make one widget hold the shortcut for MFE + Calendar (BTW, I think the 5800 calendar active standby is one the best things about that phone) + weather that would be helpful.
What happened to the 5800's top right screen notifications? It doesn't seem to be on this model. That was again one of the best things about the 5800. It in fact does not show MFE e-mail in active standby but rather shows it on the top right hand corner similar to the standby screen less iPhone. It worked out, as long as I see the icon.
As for the 5800 and touch, I still think it needs a lot of patience and the stylus in some areas. For example in the download app, hit options and a sub-menu with a scroll bar pops up. This submenu has 10 items and requires you to scroll to reach the bottom. Above this submenu is pure black space. What is that space doing? Basic question. Instead they want me to scroll down to see all the options. This one is more of nit, but I wonder what they were thinking.
Go to search. First of all what is the point of having a stupid text box there and no keyboard? You can't do anything in there without a keyboard. So why must I click on the text box to bring up the keyboard?
Also there is no intelligence in the predictive text whatsoever. So I have to type things over and over it won't remember anything. On a keypad bearing device it is bad enough but on this it is worse. The industry is using intelligent predictive text to make touch text input more friendly. This has NOTHING. Well that's fine for a $250 entry device. Not for a $700 flagship which will be the same thing.
