*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

How dare they charge $500 for a N[]KIA!!!

You can get it in china for 1/3 of that price around $175.

I would never want to deal with that store.

Me too that's why i need it and i'm going away for 6 weeks so i need that time to become an expert with the phone!!!!! :hehehe: :hehehe:

remember, N97 has a resistive screen, and not capacitive like iphone. Samsung omnia HD on the other hand has a capacitive screen like iphone.

Well, I'm not trying to blast the phone. I'm in absolute love with the home screen and will be picking it up just for that. However, I am a heavy emailer, and I do have some concerns about the keyboard layout.

But, sure,.... I'm definitely gonna put it through its paces. :buddies:

Maybe its just that the initial surprise has faded away or I'm just tired but I really expected something a bit more groundbreaking. Perhaps my mind will change once the guy with the bad accent finishes talking :)

Although she is a bit tubby, I love the look of the front of the phone...very sleek. But what's up with the back? It looks like a plain bar of soap (or chocolate, depending on the color) with those beveled edges and matte finish. I must prefer the curved glossy backside of my N82 or the new N85 which has some design character!

But the media capabilities and niggly 3G connection are among the biggest annoyances, as well as the propensity of the Nokia N97 to crash and lag all too frequently. The Facebook problems were vastly annoying, as was the AccuWeather crashing, and this was just from the initial home screen.

Nokia fans will see this as a definite upgrade from what's been offered before, and those that appreciate a decent form factor in a phone will definitely do so too. But there's just too many annoying parts to the Nokia N97 to label it a classic, but if you're stuck with it for 18 months (at least) then you can at least take solace in the fact there are many, many worse handsets out there on the market to be imprisoned with.

Engadget had another go with the N97 and didn't seem too impressed. Not just with the software which can be expected from prototypes, but the overall build. Kinda disappointing.

@ James Bond 007,

Seriously if you don't know by your own admission anything about Blackberries don't talk absolute rubbish because it just makes you look silly.

Once upon a time BB's where just for Business but that has now changed the Bold for instance has one of the best if not the best screens for it's size on any devcie. It's Music playback and Video Playback are also excellent and not lacking in anyway far from it is true. The inbuilt functionallity of a Blackberry is once again one of the best of all devcies and certain features others constantly wish for on thier non BB devices.

Many of us here went from being long term Nokia S60 users to the Bold as it was in a different class to the E71 that really only has better build materials everything else the Bold is better at. Some of us are not led by what others think of our devcies or if pretty women are impressed by our gadgets or not. We care more about what our devcie can do for us and how well it does them above all else.

Whilst I'm at it when you say a newer more powerful processor will use more battery this really shows you just don't have a clue what you are talking about. As the newer faster more powerful processors are also more power efficient hence why they are the improved next generation of processors.

@all

Now if any of you want to buy a N97 that's fine by me it's your money and your decision, same as if you don't care about the processor it's your choice to make. But for me since the E90 launch Nokia just aren't performing to the levels they did previously and at this point in time they are not worthy of parting me from my money with thier current offerings. Thier business devcies with a 2.4" screen really are a step backwrads as well as a flagship that personally just doesn't excite and IMO could of just been so much better especially as it's at a premium price. Maybe thier next set of releases will change that but then they still have plenty of competition out there to fight off.

When i first moved to Nokia and S60 in June 2006 having abandoned UIQ3 Nokia held just under 50% market share and where releasing class leading devcies one after the other. Since they stopped doing this late 2008 thier market share has gone down to 40% coincidence i think not.

Fan boys can never maintain a companies position for ever despite what they like to believe the floating user market is far stronger and has far greater influence. Fan boys by definition are blind to thier brands faults and failings and will always justify and explain away any deficiencies. This really isn't good for the brand in question and if you doubt what i say just look at what happened to SE from UIQ3 and the P990 to the bankruptcy of UIQ. Fans boy kept saying all was fine and SE listened to them only and the rest is history, i really hope Nokia don't go the same way .

Marc

You can also do T9 in landscape mode on the 5800. I wonder if that's what the questioner was asking about. I'm not sure you can do that on the N97.
