*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

There are technical issues with technologically complex devices like these phones.

You can choose not to understand it or learn it, but that should not preclude others from talking about it. It is important to people like me. The non-technical issues like "ooooh it's in black too!" honestly bore me to death. Just skip what you don't understand or are interested in.

You seemed confused when I said "HTML, CSS, Javascript" earlier. Perhaps is was a joke....?

fyi,

parable
n 1: a short moral story (often with animal characters) [syn: fable,
allegory, apologue]

No one was clamoring for a privacy screen before this and e-mail was available on Active Standby in other Nokias. I won't even touch all the users of Windows Mobile, who also aren't clamoring for a privacy option either.

Oh really ? In what way ?

It seems to have the same functionality as the iPhone app, except that it doesn't have Facebook chat built in. It seems to have the same functionality as the MS app, except that you can't upload videos. It seems to have the same functionality as the BB app, except that because it is Touch, it isn't as convoluted as the BB app.

Fortunately the lack of carrier billing isn't a huge loss as long as Nokia can either remember your credit card information or tie it to your Ovi account.

I forgot N-Gage even existed after I got my E71 until recently. I won a free N-Gage activation code from The Guru so I guess that's incentive enough to check it out on the N97. It looks the same as I remember it on my N95 tho, I wonder if my Gamer Tag still works?

Ha Ha, thanks for confirming that it really does happen. Sometimes I question myself too.

It can't really be that bad.

But anyway I think it shows that the screen itself is sensitive enough, but their software really is that bad. I bet you could round up a handful of senior engineering students from nearly any major university in the world and get a better implementation.

I carry with me an external 1TB hard drive, 75% filled with 700MB .avi movie files and complete with all my music, documents, pictures and application. Oh, trust me, I can fill up 64gb the first day I get this phone, lol. So i'll be waiting for my medal ;)
(Oh and btw Blaxx... im sorry... but the white version is starting to be more and more appealing, it reflects the light and blinds the people around you! that's gansta, loll)

Where the hell did you get this information??? Why are you getting my hopes up like this? What did I do to you? Playing such a cruel game... not funny man, from what I know, this phone will be in people's hands in July (Yes July, forget about June! lol)

(Ouu yea, the first post on N97 on the 97th page...)

For all the talk about the cost of teh N97, most of us know that if we want the device and it meets our need that we won't have a problem paying for that value. Its only those who want to get more than what they pay for to be those yelling from the mountain tops.

Personally, $1000 is about right in terms of what the N97 could mean - could, not does. That being said, it will be very hard to look away from the N97 (new Internet Tablet notwithstanding) because of how I do mobile and choose to be accessible.

There is only a month or so right... should be an interesting time. I wonder if the software showings will increase.

Why do you guys do these things to me? LOL. I'm not buying it until I get back unless SN Traders announces they have it today, in which case I'll be going there after work.

I much prefer the one-handed action myself. Makes it so easy. i harken back to my 66 and it's one-handed capability. The 71 is no slouch in that regard either. I'm up then down on this new n97. Not sure yet. Touch screens are what they are. When I use one for very long(my pro for instance) I constantly have a habit of setting it up for non touch use. I know, I buy touch and do that, go figure...just me weird I guess. :p

I agree with the phone feature part, but then you confuse me by saying the e71 was an upgrade to the n95 if u are looking at features
no 3.5mm jack
no tv out
camera not as good
no ngage support
video recording, video playback.speakers all not as good.

Now im not saying the e71 isnt a great phone i am saying you are contradicting yourself here because it dont have as many features as a n95.

IS IT JUNE YET HAHAHAHA
:buddies:

I had a very long, very rough weekend and I can't even pretend to get excited for the fact that May is closer to June and this supposed release date from Mobile City. I did however take a look at this review:

http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-6650fold-en.shtml

We don't spend nearly enough time talking about Nokia's low end and mid-range phones. A lot of them are really beautiful considering these are phones that most carriers will be giving away for free on contract within a year.

@mike2k4

Well if you really think this what our complaints are about

"a select few of us who complain about missing 166 MHz "

You really don't understand them at all it's not just the processor speed being down 166MHZ it's the type of processor that's being used. It's the lack of the best graphics support and the lack of Ram fitted and all in a so called flagship product, whilst this is exactly how far and what the competition are offering.

So what a lot of us object to is paying top $'s for old hat and not the best and latest which is what we expect and would pay for. If you think the processor, graphics and Ram in the N97 won't make a difference to what the devcie delivers compared to the latest and best you are quite simply wrong. Now if you really can't see or understand what a difference that would make to the devcie there is no point continuing this discussion any further as obviously you'll never understand either.

Marc
