I don't get it...why is it OK that a handset that runs anywhere from $800.00-$1000.00 upon release, to have gaps, light leaks, wobbly or loose sliders, or just a general overall poor build quality acceptable?
Don't get me wrong, I love Nokia, but their reluctance to address poor build quality, (especially on the N series), is a slap in the face, & many of these build anomalies could be avoided if Nokia would simply use some type of metal or anodized aluminum in the assembly of it's handsets. It's isn't Chinese arithmetic, metal is stronger & can take more abuse than plastic. Not to mention it is more appealing to the eye & hand.
The X1 was a ground breaking device in the sense that it was a high end mobile that was made predominantly from metal. If you have ever held one, you'll know what I mean, & I am not an SE fan by any means. The same can be said for Motorola, they know how to build a sturdy mobile.
It was appalling that after the release of the N95, there were hordes of threads & Internet videos on how one could make the slider more sturdy by actually taking a brand new mobile apart, & applying some kind of adhesive to the slider mechanism for a sturdier slider....& thousands of people thought that it was just a part of owning an N series.
I just want Nokia to take their beautiful software & package it in a device that is just as appealing on the outside as it is on the inside. With Nokia owning +/-40% of the mobile market, they can do something about it's abysmal build quality, & still make some coin.
