*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I just finished talking to a Nokia representative online from the Nokia USA website. He told me that the N97 will NOT be released on June 2nd. He said that non Nokia outside sources that are rumoring that the N97 will be released on June 2nd are wrong. He also told me that the N97 will be released sometime in July. I asked him whether or not any of the online retailers will be getting the N97 in stock on June 2nd and he told me "NO". Either the guy was a complete idiot and he didn't know what he was talking about or he was telling the truth. At this point, I don't know what to believe. Maybe someone in here has an inside loop with Nokia that can tell us whether or not the June 2nd release date is a myth?

ooo, it went to full screen by itself. also, there was a status bar showing loading, even while in full screen that included signal/battery bars. the browser also loaded that page really quickly, compared to my 5800. i hope it improves even more.

that browser needs to be put into the current 5800s, i know it couldn't be that much better just because the processor is a bit faster.

In case people are wondering when is the official launch date for the N97, it's June 25th.

There will also be a N97 launch party in NY.

Oh... and you need to be 21 years old to attend because alcohol will be serverd. :2thumbs:

It does in the SDK Emulator. 2nd row, 2nd from the farthest right (just to the left of the Enter key).

I didn't have to hit shift when I was typing a note just now using the mouse and keyboard.

This is really rabroad but it's been buggin me since MWC. Why is the Download! app half decent now? It gets updated almost daily, it clearly states which apps are free and which are trials, you get proper descriptions of the apps before you download them, it's organized (apps are in the Applications folder, graphics are in the Graphics folder, etc.) Why did they decide to do this only in the 4 months before it's death? Today I found the newest version of Windows Live for S60 that was previously unavailable in North America (by previously, I mean forever). What gives?

Very nice.

Interesting..so if thats the case..what use is it other than what you mentioned, such as stock prices..maybe email. I guess we'll see once the device is actually in our hands. I think I'll probably remove the widgets and keep the desktop clean with the exception of a calendar-that is one thing that is indispensable for me

that is my current combination at the moment. Which do you find yourself using more ?

Truth be told the BOLD is starting to bore me after one day of owning it again..lol. No youtube = wow, really?

It's lightning fast though. keyboard really rocks. Beejive is INSANELY reliable. every other app that works nicely and runs in the background natively is awesome. email is AWESOME. blackberry messenger is ADDICTING. trackball navigation is logical as ever - wish nokia would have used that one time in their life. I can see how the G1/android feels like a "blackberry on steroids" at times. It fills the void for all the "fun stuff". They are similar but the android platform has a bit more "flare/snazz/fancy pants" to it.

What I'm starting to realize upon going through all these phones is the question of what are the must haves? What is most important? What do I need out of a phone? right now the email has to be GOOD if not GREAT. HTML is a must. doesn't have to be INSTANT but as long as it comes in without a hitch and with attachments in tact I'm happy. so far top 3 phones are iphone 3G, T-Mobile G1, Blackberry Bold coming out 3rd place. Nokia 5800 is a great one but resorting to profimail makes me sad. Then again I didn't try Nokia Messaging beta either ...

@Ming837,

You know what your 100%correct when you say this,

"Nokia spent millions to buy off GPS services, create Ovi, Comes with Music, N-Gage, Symbian Foundation.. those are the true value you get with a Nokia device."

But look how well that's worked out for them Nokia Maps is not loved and used by all many prefer Tom Tom, Garmin or another service as Nokia Maps with voice guidance isn't free.

OVI is far from being the success either Nokia envisaged or any of you seem to believe either hence the recent announcement that the are cutting back nay stopping spending more money on it. They are now going to do what they should of done from the start and work on implementing the best support they can for already existing and popular 3rd party services that don't tie users to Nokia devices for ever and removing the users freedom of choice.

Comes with Music despite all the fanfare they made is an epic fail in the UK with Millions of Nokia users just 27,000 have gone for Comes with Music hardly a success is it?

N-Gage is that even still going? for all the users it's attracted yet again hardly the success Nokia thought it would be is it?

Symbian Foundation a reaction to the ever increasing competition they face from the competition and from the so far announced road map it's going to still take far to long to implement real changes. Plus it's not going to be a Nokia exclusive either many manufactuers will have access to it at greatly reduced cost.

Now if all of those are the plus points to buy a Nokia i have even less reason now then previously when they quite simply lead the way in giving us the best specified hardware that ran their OS.

You do realise that many of us that are now critical of Nokia where at one time it's strongest supporters and we know from experience what to expect and not to rely on PR blurb as reality.

As I've said before and elsewhere just imagine a Nokia N97 that had a 3.7" OMLED screen and powered by an OMAP 3420 processor with the Power SGX graphics chip and how all of us would of been excited and wanting this device.

Instead of which those of us that can live without the Keyboard and the extra storage are now going to buy a Samsung Omnia HD as although it also won't be perfect as no device is at least it offers the most power, Ram and up to date spec's possible.

Some of you that have so much faith in Nokia IMHO are setting yourself up for a big shock as personally i just don't believe the performance on the N97 is going to be anything special and that's being kind. I also don't think the Widgets are going to prove to be the killer application so many of you seem to think they will be either.

Only time will tell which group us us have called it right but once it releases in Europe late June/July and you get your NAM version some time after it should make for some interesting reading. Either as to just how brilliant it actually is or just how disappointed people are.

Marc
