*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Just got an opinion for a friends uncle. He works for Nokia and says he has been playing with the N97. Says its really slow. 5800 is quicker than the n97 also. He also confirmed that there will be a new version of the 5800, that's slimmer as well.

He thought he had the N97 with him but left it at work. He's going to see if he can bring it home and then my friend will call me so I can go put my fingerprints on it :)
 
I agree. Like the E90. Very high at first, then a slow drop. If people refused to pay the high price at release it would drop faster. I will never pay that much for a phone again. In this economy? Crazy!
Even paying over a grand usd is no guarantee it will be without flaws. Again I recall the flaws of the E90 which I paid $1059 for. I recently got my second E71-2 for $300. Thats resonable.
 
as an engineer i know everything can be changed, except when the ordered materials and equipment have arrived, because by then it is no longer the engineering side that will kick in, it will be the economic side...
 
With the little experience i have had playing with an e71, and the e61i i had, the space bar in the middle was a very nice touch. But those phones were not as wide as this phone is. I think with using your right thumb, and how most people will likely grip the phone, there will be a more natural feeling to pull your thumb in towards that space bar as opposed to stretching to the center. I know it's not much of a stretch, but when holding a keyboard that wide, I could see how the natural movement of the thumb would be to go towards the wrist and hand, and not out towards the center of the device.
 
Oh same here, I don't really care about the price, i NEED this phone! I already said it earlier, I'll starve myself for a month if needed in order to get it, lol. It's more important than food.
 
The positive site regarding the N97 is that the European version is TriBand 3G.
Supports both 900/2100 European bands along with AT&T's 1900 3G band.

Many places in USA including NYC are based in 1900 band. So you if your area is on 1900 you can get the European N97 and use it normally with 3G. :buddies:
 
I wouldn't say they are scam artists but they are pretty shady sometimes. Like the time they sold me a "new unlocked" Blackberry Curve 8320. LOL. Why was it still locked T-Mobile and clearly used? That was my only bad experience tho.

Why should a prospective customer of the phone give two cents about Nokia's quarterly profits? If you think $600 isn't going anywhere but down from here and you're crazy. Nokia obviously kept the specs limited to allow for a much lower price. Then they answer previous deficiencies in their lineup (side slider qwerty and touchscreen), this time in one go. The value is in the combination of features previously unvailable together. Their gamble and marketing effort is on the Internet connectivity and widgets but that's peripheral to my desires.

If they wanted mass penetration, they'd have been cozying up to a carrier since it's impossible in North America without it. You think the Omnia HD is going to do any better, especially on this continent and you're kidding yourself.

Overseas... Samsung is obviously trying hard to gain market share. Hopefully they don't get lost in the iPhone surge, but do you really think that's going to happen? If they do the unlikely and themselves shave another few points off Nokia's lead, that's fine by me since they're giving me what I want.
