*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I got a screen protector for my N86. I don't think it looks weird. It's barely noticeable. The one I got doesn't cover the whole face, just the screen part. I had it cut to fit.

Nahh...you're wrong. If you are outside major metro areas in this USA-and I see you're in the big apple-and don't have a phone that gets a good 850 signal on AT&T your f***d..period

I don't know, sometimes night shots are so not good. I hold the camera very still.

I agree that some companies, including Nokia seem to repackage and sell updated versions of the same phone. Whether it was the same phone with the added internet package or music package, or improved specs like the different versions of the N95. Or perhaps a sleeker, maybe lighter version of a previous phone with a few new things under the hood. (N95 to N96 to N85 to N86)

I think it is great for Nokia if they can produce new phones every year, with a few tweaks of a previous model and people flock to buy them.

I dont think its great when Nokia removes one of the single most important features of its "imaging" device (xenon) and expects me to throw down my money to buy it because its the newest model.

This is why I think there has to be another phone in the works. With its current announcements, Nokia has ignored the entire candybar form factor. The only phones new phones that they are offering that do not have moving parts are the E series. I dont think nokia would shun an entire market segment.

I still stand by my previous post. The N85, N86, and N96 are just reworked N95's. The form factor alone proves this. Nokia is riding the N95 gravy train as long as it can. The N86 camera will be decent, the same way the N95's camera was great, until Nokia released the N82.
Please remember, I am not asking for xenon on every phone that Nokia makes,, just on the one that they market as their best Camera phone.

If Nokia truely listened to the people that purchased its imaging devices, like the N82.. They would know that we dont want 8mp, the MP race is a joke. What we want is xenon and if they really wanted to make us happy throw in 3G, to boot on the same phone.

thats why this statement is completely irrelevant. Until you know for sure that you dont have a defective phone/camera, your pictures dont count.

Hence, the request for more comparison photos from other users.

N85 was $300 a few months ago but the price has come up recently since I think stock is drying up.

Anyway check the Nokia site and store, they sometimes have $50 off or 20% deals that can take your price down by a lot. Also $50 rebate deals pop up every now and then.

But ultimately this phone will hit $300-350 at most in 3 months after launch. I mean even at launch once the Amazons and Buy.coms of the world get it, it should be in the $425 range. A drop to $350 isn't so unexpected in 3 months.

You must understand that the N95-4 is more phone than the N86 at least in terms of production costs. Bigger screen, OMAP 2420 with 3D acceleration, they also had to keep RAPIDOWAYE in there. RAPIDOWAYE alone powers phones like the N85, N86 etc. The N95 needs to have RAPIDOWAYE + OMAP 2420 and that's why it is so expensive.

The rest like N85, 5800, N79 and all those hit $300-350 very fast.

BTW, you know that N97 will be $550 on June 23 right? The first two weeks of sales is for people willing to pay a huge premium then the price drops rapidly.

I'll look on the Nokia Blog then hit up Google. Thanks.

All phones are usually up for pre-order prior to launch. It's just that Nokia makes a bigger deal out of certain models over others as with the E75 and N97. With the N86 being the first phone from Nokia to crack the 8MP barrier I would assume they'd make some noise about it but this remains to be seen.

I remember reading that the OLED screen can't stay on the same way that the previous versions could...so the clock screensaver may be nogo?

That damned camera beep. I was at a wedding today and didn't take any pics because of that go***mn beep on my N95. The only plus to the N95 is that you can cover both speakers with your left hand so it's harder to hear.

I've never seen that feature on a camera, and I wish someone would hack it. My old 6682 would boot the camera like lightning fast and take a pic with no other distractions. It is one thing that has pissed me off about the N95 since day 1.

I would love to hear about this too. It's probably not a huuuge deal, but it's definitely one of the more concerning potential design issues I've read about this phone.

Just uploaded some recent photos taken with my n86. Most are from a hike in the woods behind my parents' house in MD. This was the first chance I've had to test out the phone's imaging, and I am really impressed by the clarity and color balance of the pictures, especially in a very detailed environment with variable light conditions. I seem to be getting better at holding the camera steady when taking a shot, too, despite the stiff button.

photos here, let me know what you think :)

and yes, I know I am not much of a photographer :P
