I think you are missing the point of those people that are complaining about the fact that there is no Xenon flash on the new Nokia "imaging" flagship. Nokia started this whole thing by giving its phones unique features that set them apart. I dont expect every Nokia phone to have a xenon flash. Just the one that they say is their imaging flagship. The N82 had a xenon flash and was/is considered one of the best camera phones on the market. Nokia left out 3G on this phone and made people decide if the xenon was worth the price of 3G. Now, what is believed to be the successor to the N82 is announced (n86), they have dropped the xenon. I can only hope that the 3rd generation LED means something good, but I doubt it. It has been shown over and over again that the xenon flash greatly increases the quality of most pictures taken with the n82. There is no way an LED flash will give the same quality. (Just try to take a picture in a completely dark room.)
Also remember that most people, myself included, like the N82 and xenon for quick, and unexpected family photos. I have two boys in boy scouts. I could drag along my Nikon D60 slr to all the activies, but when there is a risk of breaking a $500 camera, or getting it stolen, because I have to leave it in a tent unattended, it has to stay home. This is where the N82, and xenon comes in. No LED flash can take acceptable pictures around a campfire at night. I also have used my N82 on fishing trips to canada. If it rains, I can stick the phone inside my waterproof jacket. (Cant do that with an slr)
I am hugely disappointed with the lack of xenon on this new phone, I can only hope that Nokia has another phone planned with xenon. If they completely abandon the xenon flash, I will hang on to my N82 until I can find an upgrade, no matter what brand it is.
Also, I believe that the N series has had a mechanical shutter since the N73. So this is not new.
And Nokia, is following the megapixel race, there new phones have incrementally stepped up in MP's each year. Do we really need an 8 or 12mp phone? Nope. Make the best 5mp and 99.9% of consumers will be happy
I find it very hard to believe that Nokia, the leader in wireless phones, can produce a phone as thin as the E71, or a phone that has the battery life like the projected E55, and many phones with big, beautiful screens.
But when it comes to the N86 people claim that its the the capacitor is too large to fit into a phone anymore, and that xenon takes up too much battery, causing Nokia to dim the screen.
This is what I expect Nokia to produce, you are the leader. If I am going to plop down my hard earned cash for a cutting edge device, Make It Cutting Edge. Not a downgrade from what I already paid you for.
