V20 not available. V11 buggy as hell, but I went through the same thing when I bought my N95 in the first month. Why does Nokia do this? For the same reason they include subscription based nav...to temp us with phenominal hardware and jerk us around on the software. This rant could go on for hours, so just pretend that you're watching someone curse out a tree in the park for a few hours. At some point you'll believe the tree deserves it, but ultimately nothing changes.

I haven't pushed the audio quality. Will hook the phone up to my pro headphones tomorrow (I keep them at work for drowning out the co-workers).
 
That's strange, I don't have anything on my phone to setup any kind of push email. When I go into email have the choice to create a new mail. Then enter email address, password, user name. For gmail it set it up as imap right away, for exchange I had to choose exchange. Looks like you're only allowed 1 exchange account since just now tried to add another account (made up domain) and only gave me the option for imap or pop.

Probably the NAM version firmware doesn't come with nokia messaging?

Can you set up your gmail as imap? Set it to check every 5 minutes. Every 5 minutes it will automatically check. And then it will idle for a minute or so. You will essentially have push email but only a 3-4 minute delay.

And if you have an exchange account you can have it always connected.

Nokia messaging is pointless, no use even for free. Who would pay for it?
 
Thought I would update about my N86 experience. First a worry about the micro USB port, it is soldered to the motherboard by a robot and basically looks impossible to replace, it is also very weak. I might have had a unique case but unlike the mini dc connector where any wear and tear usually damaged the cord not the port, the exact opposite happened on my N86, the port wore out. I am thinking this is more a problem with Nokia's implementation rather then the standard itself(I hope). Maybe I had a bum port to start, we will see..... either way my phone never would have been repaired under warranty do to my excessive tampering and abuse.... I could not replace the port like I have done on a Nokia N95 in the past, a relatively big problem in my book. Maybe a professional shop can. I tried to do a repair but after a couple mornings of waking up to a dead phone I needed a solution. Now it does not matter, I quickly looked around at my options for phones and then ordered another N86 off Amazon overnight. Its just like the first one.... Slider wobbles a bit at the bottom but its very obvious that the mechanism as well as the rest of the phone (except for maybe the usb port) are solid. My 6 months of hard abuse on the N86 did nothing but cosmetic damage. Does it make any sense that I ordered another N86? Well yes. I am not happy about needing another one, however at this point my workflow revolves to much around the N86. Now I have two, parts if I need them, or just a plain old back up. I have too many features on the N86 I don't want to compromise on another phone for. First the camera, second straight usability, third is the general unlockedness of the phone. I pre-ordered a wifi iPad, I will be using joikuspot to connect via 3G over my N86. I like the small slider with T9 keypad, I like multitasking. iPhone 4G with a better camera might sway me but for now I need an N86. So the point is, a traumatic event caused me to almost buy another phone. I have been out of contract for 3 years now with AT&T and am none to happy with their service as of late(blame the iPhone...) I could have gone with any carrier, any phone in the North American market. I chose the N86 again, either Nokia has me by the balls or the N86 has some features that really make it a stand out phone. I think its the latter..... Read into it as you will.... :)
 
I hate the look of it. Not a huge fan of LED's but who knows how they will be until the phone is actually released or at least in the hands of others. I would love to see some pictures taken with this phone though...
 
I just gave my personal opinion about N97 & N86.With N86, 5 outta 10 times, pics came out kinda blurry, with N97 8 outta 10 times, pics came out without noise. I took more noisy shots with my N86 then N97, hence my initial comment, I did not mean to turn off any potential N86 buyers/lovers. Also, N86 AF is slower then N97 and it takes more time to save a pic on N86.It has good camera, but it becomes psychological with wide angle lens and variable aperture and a phone that's promoted as camera phone to expect best image quality in the market! IMO Innov8 still takes best pic in good light and i8910 has same exact pic quality. I sold Innov8/w995 for N86 for intense camera use, but yet to experience 'WOW' which I experienced with Innov8.
 
the n85 and n86 like the same brother with no change,if talk change,it is in skin,do not you think that boring?i really do not know why you are so interested in them.
 
I think the N82 was the last time Nokia shafts the North American market like that. Every phone since then came in a NAM variant. Why they released the N95-3 and -4 with NA 3G but decided not to do that with the N82 is beyond me but ehh...
 
I just updated to V21 two days ago via NSU and I haven't seen much different in the memory. I don't have the free Ovi Maps installed though.
Deleting the cache from the S60 browser is usually a good thing to relieve crowding on c:, but I don't think that would help with low memory.
 
usually if you call customer service you can have them hold it and you can pick up next day when they open, instead of having to wait until the afternoon when they deliver to many residential addresses. I don't think you can pickup on sundays, but you could try calling anyway. Most likely you're gonna have to sign for the package anyway. It might be worth it to just take care of it in the morning if you aren't going to be home at some times of the day. The days I have packages delivered I always seem to miss them in the 5 minute gap that I leave my house for something quick. I guess I just have bad luck though. :)
 
The music folder icon was always there for me. Choosing horizontal standby mode doesn't get rid of it under contacts. It's a tab or whatever you call it beside group contacts and Gizmo VoIP (if it's installed). I had it on vertical mode anyway.


Is keypad tones turned on in settings? I don't remember any tone when I dialed on v11, but I always had keypad tones turned off.
 
Please enlighten me as to why people are referring to the N86 as a "featurephone." It is most certainly a smartphone, and not a featurephone. Anything running S60 is a smartphone. :help:
