Fort Bonifacio! here is a compare/contrast of the same fountain with an N82 (taken last year:

i dont think i would say worse, but there is definately a tiny bit of play there but that has been there since i bought it. it is not nearly as bad as my n95s, but it is just part of the dual slider design i guess. I really wish they would make these phones without the dual slider as they obviously cant get it perfect.
I couldnt live with the n95 wobble but i can live with this

Ohhhhhhhhhh E71 doesn't have anything like that. We get little word bubble things at the bottom that give you a preview if highlight it and the phone will read it aloud if you hold down the green Send key. That's why I didn't see it LOL

DUH!! thats what I have been trying to say for the past 3 days. But you insist on trying to dismiss every point that I make. I am beginning to think if I told you I was wearing a red shirt today, you would try to convince me that its blue.

Last I checked Nokia doesnt tell you about every single phone that they are working on. But, we did have the Nokia 2008-2009 roadmap that was leaked some time ago, It clearly showed a phone codenamed Athlon that had a 5mp camera and xenon in the works. Now, did nokia scrap this for the n86, or is Athlon still coming. I dont know.

If Nokia does move to an LED and it fails, it will lose ground to its competitors that are producing similar phones with xenon flash.

And just to make it clear, xenon is not the most important feature on a phone. But camera capability is an important factor to me, if nokia can improve without xenon IN ALL AREAS, not just daylight pictures, then I will be happy.

For the people who have the N86 now. When you slide the phone to the multimedia keys, does the 4 keys touch the slider like it's grinding together?

I've always read the Finland made variants were of better quality and build and would last longer. Strange thing is my camera was working a few minutes ago and then stopped working again. My question is when you're active in camera mode and select one of the modes on the right, are all the nonselected selections whitened out? I don't remember it being like that before. For example, in flash mode, if automatic flash is selected, are the other options such as "on", "reduced red", and "off" completely whitened out to where they're only viewable/readable by selecting them? Before, I thought the other options were at least viewable without having to move on them.

I installed that app someone mentioned called BrightLight. I wonder if that's what messed up my phone. A day later after installing that app it would not work along with the camera. After I removed BrightLight, the camera worked temporarily and then stopped. Rarely it will work again but then stops working.

I'll try fixing it tomorrow. Today was a busy day.

Mine froze up using Google Maps. That app went stupid trying to look for a Wi-Fi connection. I was outside of any network when I ran it. It has worked the last few times I've ran that app. My slider feels sturdy.

I knew about the workdays option. The thing is my Monday and Wednesday should have the same scheduled alarms. Different alarms settings on Tuesday and Thursday. Different alarm settings on Friday. Well, the one "workday" option won't solve that. Handy Alarm looks like commercial software and not free.

Edit: I just realized the weekly option lets me select a day of the week. I thought that option was for weekdays Monday to Friday. Problem solved. Only bad thing is there will be a lot of alarms.

Anyone recommend a good browser? I've been using Opera Mobile for a few days and like it but it has a trial period of 30 days and not free. I feel the browser the phone comes with is limited.

The e90 came out before the n82. And the e55 is basically the same as the E52 so that argument doesnt hold water. Besides Nokia could still release a NAM version of the E52. No one here knew for sure if there would be a NAM n86 until today. How long has he N86 been available overseas??

I just called the Nokia Store in Chicago for the fun of it to see if they had the N86 NAM available for sale. They guy sad no. Judging from his tone, he has heard this question a few times today. I asked if he knew when it would be available in store, and all he said was this quarter.
I guess it may be late September.

i have been very pissed off with how buggy and slow the v20 software has been on my n86nam. originally i had bought an unlocked unit from amazon (running v11 os) and was very happy with how it ran, but sent it back for a crappy wobbly slider. i bought a rogers unit and the build quality was much better but the v20 firmware was so buggy and slow i couldnt believe it! i changed the product code to 0590552, unbranded nam, and it was still pretty slow, minus the rogers crap on it. i had stopped using the n86 as i have been using a bb 9700 for work and was thinking of selling the n86. i decided to change the product code again to see if it would make a difference before doing anything. i changed it to 0590464, wich is for a mexican carrier i believe, and it is noticeably faster! i have not had too much time to play with it, but moving through the menus and opening apps is much faster. the device is useable again. the nice part was that all of my settings and data were still there. when the device rebooted it was no longer in english, so if you are going to change the product code make sure you write down how to get to the language settings first! i will be using it a little tomorrow and hopefully it doesnt let me down, but first impressions are much more positive than when i flashed it last time

I read your post. Blaxx also posted a link way back in this thread, about developments in LED flash technology:

http://www.philipslumileds.com/pdfs/CS09-xenon_vs_LED_flash.pdf

People here wrongly assume that LED flash technology is a static, unchanging, and always the same. Therefore people also wrongly assume Xenon will always be better than LED. Perhaps the N86 won't be the phone that has LED technology as good as or better than Xenon. But it could be on the horizon in the not too distant future. The whole, Xenon is the end all and be all position is silly. Or maybe it will be something else other than LED that solves the space issue and is better than both Xenon and LED.

I'm still just baffled by the way people are so in love with the Xenon flash. I've already said it, but the use of any flash (regardless of the technology) makes for crappy looking pictures. What I'm really looking forward to is sensors in cell phone cameras that have the low light sensitivity that the better stand alone cameras have now. This is the real revolution in digital photography. The sensors have surpassed high speed film in their low light sensitivity and you don't have to change the film in your camera to get the benefit. Flash is old bad technology that's been around forever. Why are people so desperate to emulate this in cell phones? Low light sensors are the great innovation.

I really cant beleive that they had the nerve to announce this device. They were better off being critisized for not releasing a device than be critisized for their incompetence. Do they not see what the other manufacturers are coming out with or they just dont WANT to see it.
You know what Nokia, I suggest you lineup the N95 (all four versions), the n96 the n85 and the N86 and play "spot the difference" :D
