*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

I just bought a Plantronics Voyager Pro bluetooth headset. It has been losing connection with the N86 and then freezing the phone up. Does anyone have any opinions or insight with the N86 and bluetooth headsets. Do some work better than others, is the N86's bluetooth inferior, is there something I am doing wrong?

The headset I bought is top rated and not cheap. I'm really disappointed because it works great when it works then it loses it connection even though the phone still shows it as connected and the phone freezes up when I turn the bluetooth off.

Happy New Year to all and I appreciate any responses!

I'd be interested to know this, too. I don't mind using the backdoor method to remove it, but I would prefer to just be able to just toggle it on and off normally

You can preorder fom many places, I myself preordered from Nokia USA which means that if they are telling people the 28 you will get it from Nokia sooner. I do not know what mobile city's price is but I will bet it is the highest around they are famous for over inflated prices. As for indigo, from what I can find out that maybe the only color for the NAM so far. I really hope that Nokia starts to ship next week but I will not hold my breath over it!!!

Update: I just checked their website and almost fell out of my chair $459.99 is not a bad price but I will still stick with Nokia USA even though I spent $477.00 on mine.

UPdate:
I was correct that Nokia was cheaper than Mobile city, I forgot that Nokia charges sales tax, my phone before tax was $449.10 so really Nokia USA is cheaper.

I dont think much happens at CeBit anymore. I remember 2-3years ago when we couldnt wait for CeBIT, at Esato they would even make a special thread about it, not anymore. :( .
Personaly im getting the N86 next year on upgrade,im not concerned about Xenon flash,i own a SE K850i as a 2nd phone and sometimes find the xenon an annoying lil thing. I hardly take pics in the dark so il be fine, and when clubbing my mates and i take proper lil digicams or download pics of us clubbing taken by the club photographers at Thunda.com ,and they use proper high end shooters. What i want is a S60 just like my N81 but with a larger screen (non-touch), better camera, better video, more internal memory and large built-in storage thats expandable, so the N86-8MP and SAMSUNG Innov8-16GB are on my list,i think il get N86 in the end though due to AMOLED screen, more firmware support, newer Flashlite version, newer S60 browser, kick stand etc. . .but the Innov8-16GB has 16GB built-in,larger screen, better positioned loudspeakers, and graphics acceleration hardware thanx to the PowerVR MBXLite GPU it has,it also has built-in DivX and Xvid support plus can do QVGA@120fps vid recording, im just so torn between the two :( anyone who has both? Feel free to comment.

I prefer the hard keys to touch screen myself, and I'll be taking a hard look at the N86 since I need a better cam anyway and perhaps this could fit that need.

I used N85 for few days but returned it as it was my first N-series phone and hated S-60. Mainly because it lacks smart-dialing and call logs that make sense. Then, I got N79 during the Nokiausa.com glitch which came to around $160ish after rebate (which I received last week BTW). Slowly, got used to S60 and think it's pretty decent. I like the standby screen on S60s but still miss the smart dialing I love so much on SE and WinMo phones.

I think nothing beats the great deal of $250 for N85 on dell among all smartphones. It's a better phone than N79 which I think is also very good. Got used to the keypad on N79 after few weeks of use. But, N85 has better and bigger screen, classy look and I believe the newer one's don't have the issues with build quality.

Black N85 is more expensive as it's new. Copper has been from Day-1.

I just read a review of the N86 that points out that the underpowered processor and the low RAM is the culprit for most of the phone's issues.

I don't get it. Why is Nokia still pushing out devices with phone hardware from 2005? It's essentially a rebadged N95, but since it has a newer version of S60 and a higher resolution camera, the processor can't keep up. The company knee-capped both N97 models and the E72 (good CPU but low RAM and a low res screen) in the same manner.

What, does Nokia have a Raiders-of-the-Lost-Ark sized warehouse of weak ARM 300-400 Mhz Processors and 128MB RAM chips? It would explain things.

I think everyone is looking for the same thing, a great camera phone in all lighting conditions. If the n86 takes pictures just as well or better than the N82 then I will be happy also. If it only takes better pictures during the daytime, then I feel Nokia is up to its same old tricks. They are forcing me to choose between certain key features of their phones. This has been nokia's track record for some time now. I still want someone to explain to me why there is no 3G on the n82??? My concern is that the N86 will take better pictures during the day, but will lack at taking low light pictures. But people wont notice that the pictures are worse, because Nokia has distracted them with a bigger better screen.
As much as it frustrates me, nokia has a great business plan. Put out a bunch of phones, make each one a little different, keeping key features off of some. Then consumers will buy more than one phone. Its brilliant. I know there are a lot of people here that have multiple phones, some use the E series during the week and and N series on weekends. Some have a certain phone they use on vacation.
This is the reason for my response to the N86, and its lack of xenon. Nokia would not produce a phone without lacking in some area. Its almost their battle cry. So,with looking at the N86's spec sheet. I cant help but think that the one area this phone is lacking is in the flash. I hope Nokia proves me wrong.

Exactly. I guess Nokia wants to save their 2.8"+ screens for the N9x phones. A 2.6" screen would have a slightly higher pixel density which is good for viewing photos taken with the phone's camera but I don't know. The navigation cluster could have been downsized in the interest of a bigger screen unless Nokia is planning a remake of this phone in the future(N86i, anyone?).

Mega pixel means nothing to me, I've sold 14mp Panasonic camera to buy 10mp Canon camera. It's just marketing. It's hard to sell a phone as imaging phone if it only has 2mp and no flash etc.It was a joke because iPhone 3g camera sucks and it was more joke the way Steve showed off in the conference and people stood up.I did my internship at Apple and for what I've experienced is that Apple products will sell a lot no matter what because of their amazing marketing.64% of Americans have iPods, just bring me any iPod which is a dedicated media player and it will not sound better then Sony Walkman phones or walkman players or Nokia 5800.IMO, iPhone 2011 0r 2012 will be a complete smart phone with good sound quality, manual Eq, user replaceable battery etc.It all comes down to price. After one year iPhone is still very expensive, it's good for investment, but as I said earlier, people look at N86 features and then look at iPhone's feature and price!

Phone seems great, but the memory card location and speaker location seem rather odd, especially since many, many devices now are hot swappable (heck, my 6682 is!). As they said, even though there isn't a ton of -new- enhancements on the device, it should make for a nice upgrade to many of our N82s and N95s.

That's too bad the Jabra didn't work out for you. I'm in the market for a new one because I used my Jabra JX10 like crazy so it's not holding it's charge. I tried the Sound ID 300 and didn't like it. I might try the Blueant Q1. I just hope it's not like the Blueant Z9 because that kept disconnecting and reconnecting on my E71. I've tried Jawbone and don't like the fit of them.
