*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

That seems odd since the All About Symbian review found that the N97 by far took the worst photos of the four camera phones they compared (N86, N82, N97, INNOV8) and it was easy to see in their comparison photos. Maybe your N86 is defective (something more than the processing alogrithm issue that GSMArena saw).

Anyway, how about sample pictures from the N97 and N86 of the same shot. It's hard to really see the difference you're talking about with the N97, when you just post one random image and don't take the same shot with the N86 to compare.

I am with you also plus i love the n85 oled screen , although other screens have better resolution it cant match the colors and yes im talking 5800. iphone and fuze ive had them all and the colors on the n85 beat them all so it makes things nicer looking. I do wish that they gave the oled a higher resolution for web browsing and a 2.8 screen but im still very much interested in it. :buddies:

we're still talking about the flash...??

seriously....??

these phones are freakin' convergence devices that can do a multitude of tasks and this thread has been largely about the camera and the flash...

I think i only used my camera once in 2009....

this phone will prob be a big seller for Nokia...

the only thing holding the N85 back was the build quality....

What's wrong with "staged" pictures. You're taking 2 shots of the same location. That's how you compare images. You can't go clubbing or go to a bar and start messing with girls and whip out your N86 and do a self portrait and repeat it 2 nights later with your N82 and call that a repeatable benchmark. WHo knows how drunk you are, and you can't control how you hold your camera and the conditions and what not.

Photography reviews HAVE certain conditions. Now granted a lot of these cell phone sites blow at having a good amount of pictures, I think what we need is an increase in # of pictures especially dark ones.

I have a feeling just like the the N95 the camera will improve with firmware updates. Its already great the only issues seem to be the occasional blur and close up focusing. I wonder how much of this is fixed with V20. The Dual LED flash was the real surprise for me, very very good as compared to the pitiful LED flashes of past Nokias.

As for the slider I too have noticed the issue of it moving side to side slightly. I get the feeling that the movement will stay like that for the life of the phone, not getting worse. The rest of it feels quite solid. When I compare it to the how the slide was on my old N95 I think this N86 will hold up much better. Overall I think this Phone will be Nokia's Ultimate N Series Dual slider and when the V30 firmware hits will easily take the crown from the N95. For now I play the patient game of waiting for NAM firmware updates. The hardware is damn near perfect. On a side note the E75 I got for my girlfriend is also quite nice, slider on a par with my 8801.

i bough the n85 a couple months ago and cracked the screen. so i just invested in the n86. im on tmobile. i guess the 3G wont work on tmobile. but does the 2100 in the 3g work?

i was just getting used to the n85 and then cracked it. is there a website out there that has a quick guide to the short cuts on the phone like voice activation and what not. i never knew how to do it.

to get updates of the software on the phone do you have to have an internet connection or can you use wifi?

last ? can you get email updates using wifi or do you have to use the internet connection with your provider.

thanks :buddies:

This phone is working great, but it seems the breathing light is too dim. When you get a new message, it should be visible enough to get your attention if its sitting on a table.

Thanks for this comparison, Sinta. I think those are more telling than any other no-light comparison shots we've seen yet

The n86 pics might have a bit of that "night vision green" tinge, but at least the details are fairly legible...unlike my moto z9's LED flash, which at best manages to take pictures resembling the blair witch project at night :P

Any other no-light or low-light comparison shots you'd be willing to post would be greatly appreciated :)
