*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

It is easy when you have no friends, no one calls me so a cell phone is really just a toy, that is why I really do not keep them all that long, but after watching some youtube about the N86 I have to say that is one beautiful phone, I really like the banding around the sides and that hardened glass screen. The pictures on the Nokia site really do not do it justice, I am really getting the itch to have it!!! One thing, what is indigo??Is it a shade of black or a really dark blue???

As for the N96 it was just a phone that could have been a real nice phone if they would have just thought out the design and internal working a little more, instead it was just another Nokia White Elephant, really to bad but OH WELL!!! :befuddled

I was thinking Nokia dropped the price because of the SE Satio. The Satio is so damn expensive. I really like the look of it, but I don't have that kind of money. The N86 went out of stock at the Nokia shop some time ago when it went down to $450 from $500.

I don't think its yet possible for manuf to make quad band 3g phones yet. At least last i heard their still working on getting the hardware small enough and working properly etc.

Thanks for that. I agree it's a bummer there is no xenon flash, but this device looks hotter every time i see it. I originally wanted the N97, but I'm not sure how pocketable it's gonna be???

Sorry, what I meant the new phones coming out, especially the N series. I did reference that Nokia may be replacing it with the E series. It seems to me that every N series will have a slide of some kind. The n78 is almost a year old. I liked the n79, but the lack of xenon kept me from buying it.

I think the problem is that there is no composition or focus in the picture. I believe the focussing is the same in v20 as v11, the square is just now showing you the point the camera is trying to focus on. I dont blame the camera for not being able to focus on something there, as there is nothing there. Unfortunately it looks like a picture of some crappy weather in a back yard and that will never look good. try framing the tree and see what happens.

On the 21st, I chatted with someone on the NokiaUSA site. Maybe a sales representative I don't remember. I was on the product page for some time and the chat initiated. If possible, how do I initiate a conversation at will? He told me the only colour at the moment is indigo-black. I asked for the release date on the NAM version, and he didn't give me an official date. He said it will definitely be out before the end of August. I suspect today or early this week? Someone on this forum said the American version lacks a TV-out, but the individual I chatted with said there are no differences between the American model and European model other than the network. I never did mention about the TV-out to him. Also the phone doesn't come with a microSD card.

The promotional code 072109R1C lets you get a free Nokia Bluetooth BH-703.

AAS is by far the most professional site there is on Symbian, IMHO. There is a lot of nuance to their commentary as well as broad market perspective (beyond staring at the specs) and you have to read quite a bit of their stuff to see that they do critizise Nokia and Symbian more generally quite a bit.

Anyway, N86 firmware update is out (appropriately I saw the news on AAS :)):

Wow, almost a whole page just on phone-dog.

How close is this N86 to shipping?
Hi-Mobile.net has it listed as coming soon; no price estimate yet.
Any other reputable online sites have it listed with or without a price so we can track it?

Thanks.

PS Note that the Menu Key - appearing like a MultiMedia key is perforated with tiny holes so that the Breathing-LED can shine through it.

I had bad experiences with E71 RF.. It was very sensitive. However, I am loving E75's RF. It shows FULL bars all the time & the bars are not going down even when I cover the phone. I tried to cover top bottom side to figure out where the antenna is located ;)

Not a fan of the white one. - The blue/black color looks sleeker - IMO
Just wondering if I should pull the trigger on a Euro model - since I dont use 3G?
Will the US version ship with a newer firmware?

I've tried the panorama mode, but just indoors, to test it. I'll try and remember to take a nice outdoors panorama pic for you. :)

Also, I went for a walk today and took both the N82 and the N86 along. Here are a few comparison pictures. In each set, I used the N82 on the first pic and the N86 on the second.

A typical Filipino jeepney:

Up next, random leaves. The N82 wanted to use its flash, and the N86 didn't. I don't think the xenon flash helped much, anyway.

In the next pic, both phones used flash.

How do you guys think the two phones compare?

Copy the contents of N80's memory card to your computer and then transfer it to your N86.You can't transfer themes that are already installed in your N80. You need to have setup .sis or .sisx files for themes to install. Atlernatively, you can go to www.zedge.net as this site hosts tons of ringtones, themes and ringtones for all Nokia phones.
