*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

Hmmm. . . .i like it, ive always liked having a QVGA display 2.4" inchs and above that is, i like the N86,hopefully it will be my next device, if it has that 600mhz CPU. :)

First few days of use the battery life was brutal but today i took it off of the charger at 10am and i still have 3 bars left after streaming podcasts over the fm transmitter for 2 hours, bluetooth on all day with about 40min of calls, emails synching every 15min and about 20 sms sent, plus i was showing pics from last weekend to some friends and i am streaming music over internet radio right now. i cant ask for more i guess? Or could i. . . . . . . .
Nokia messaging blows, very slow even with no other apps open

Ya, i'd really like to know about how the antenna works out too. With my e71 in low signal areas my hand kills the connection.
In a real bad area like indoors or in basements, i have to text with the phone upside down. (i type it normally, then flip it over, wait till the signal returns then hit send while inverted).[/QUOTE]

When I had the E71 I had no issues with RF in the house, but did when I was in the basement. I lost signal within a few minutes being down there.

If you could actually do that, you would be all over the internet. :D

Just call it a squirrel moment on this thread :D Bump on the ship date of the N86? My N95-3's battle scars are showing so it's time for a fresh face.

This is true.

I went back and looked at all of the articles regarding the FCC filing, and not one had any mention of US 3G frequencies...you could very well be correct.

These are all valid points, the only true reason that I am upgrading at is of course the lack of 3G on the N82. But when I look at buying a new phone, I always try to get the most for my money or at least make sure that I upgrade in all areas of the phone. Since there is no Nokia with Xenon, 3G, Wifi, GPS. I keep looking at the bonuses that I could get with the N97 (or Mini) or the E72.

The V20 firmware for the N97 will probably be my deciding factor as to whether or not I get the N86. If the picture quality is close then I may go with the N97.

I'm more interested in how well the phone performs when multi-tasking and are there any hard drive corruption issues present like the reported cases w/ the Samsung INNOV8....
and these reports about the kick stand being a bit flimsy feeling....

and, the RF is of concern to me...
working out in the boondocks now...

the camera quality is at the bottom of my list....

I'm using v11 and I don't wanna upgrade coz I might lose the hack and 50 apps. I know v20 increases the image quality and other improvements, but the sky is white because it's always cloudy here after Oct and will stay like this till April :(

N86's kinda slow in some apps, especially in text messaging, you have to save text msgs in phone memory, otherwise it takes 30 seconds to send one text msg, at least on mine, because I've 5000 msgs.I actually gave up laggy N97 for N86 and I'm starting to notice build quality issues yet again, left side near the soft key is little raised resulting in a tiny light leak, very loud creak on zero key and overall very stiff feel of the phone. As samsunguser wrote, their is a play in slider sideways and it's annoying, If I shake my phone with slider closed, I can hear metal noise. Also, right side of the slider as more gap then left side. Build quality issues is always been a big turn off for me, I've returned phones even for a tiny creak, I don't like it, especially when you pay 400-700$ for a phone, I bought i8910 for 800$ when it first came out and I think it's worth it, I recently bought pixon12 for 560$ and IMO it's worth it, build quality on these Sammys are mind blowing, it's perfect! Now my eyes are on e72, but I'm already reading issues with it, noise cancellation bug, light leak. Nokia I implore, when you allow korea and China to assemble phones then please hire a separate Engineer for BUILD QUALITY because I'm getting tired of build quality issues. N900 Nam is Made in korea and I hope it's better then N97!

touch pro 2 ???, its costs about $880 which is ridiculous and more than N97 . Palm Pre , I think you have to wait for a year until sprint sells all wcdma pres they have and then start sell GSM version . As for iphone, I think there is going to be a "light version " for Verizon nothing new , even if there was a new it still liacks many thinks. However, I will defendantily go with Omina HD .

It's basically the same phone except for the camera guts, kickstand, and the better materials(glass screen, metal accents, real buttons)

Sorry for the late response..

See I'm use to pressing and holding the camera button until it focus and takes the picture.

As for the N86.. Pressing and holding the camera button would only auto focus the camera. Letting the camera button go would take the picture.

Trying to get use to it so my pics don't end up blurry..

Newtype, I agree with some of the points that you make. The N86 may prove to be a smart step up from the N95, n96, or n85. The camera/flash and the glass screen are the only things on this phone that havent been done by Nokia on other phones.

-Build Quality= this shouldnt even be in a discussion about a phone that costs +$400. All of nokias phones should have good build quality.

- FM transmitter= already on the N97.
- Active Kickstand= n96 had the kickstand, but not the active part.
- 8GB of internal memory= didnt the N96 have 16gb with microSD?
- OLED Screen= Already been done
- Audio Quality= This is subjective, many have claimed excellent audio quality on other phones.
- Improved Browser= also available in the n97.

Granted they are all in one package as you have stated. But since the camera/flash are the only things on the N86 that are truly unique, its hard to get excited about it.

I am by no means bashing the N86. I have been using my n82 for a couple of years, waiting patiently for a replacement. I tried the e71 and the 5800, but they both didnt fit the bill. I want nothing more, than for the N86 to be my next phone.
