*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N86 8MP

i thought optical zoom meant it used lenses to zoom, not software. the zoom on the n86 in video recording is the most noticeable improvement over past nseries phones. i dont find the camera THAT much better, but recording videos is much better in my opinion

Yet they are a founding member of Symbian Foundation. Maybe they are in it to sabotage it from within. I wouldn't put it past those monopolistic bastards. That is one company that needs to be chopped up into pieces again. But then again they will find a way to go crazy and become an uncontrollable behemoth through acquisitions and mergers.

And I'm sure the NAM version will not come out in June.....Most likely a month or two after, but again Nokia has surprised us at times with a simultaneous launch.....

I have the N95, but at 47 my yes are fianlly shot, and i have to hold the phone 3 feet away to text someone with my new middle age eyesight

I still love my N93 ...if it had all the ATT Bands i would still use it now ..great build the best phone keyboard nokia ever made and a nice camera ...

still wating for nokia usa ( brightpoint.co) to ship my n86

ordered aug 11

i still dont see it much of an upgrade. it look to me like what they did for the n95-1 then they did n95-4 with a bigger screen and black and 8gb of space .(not bringing in the n95-3)

I have a bunch of sound clips and themes that I downloaded for my N80 and are currently saved on my N80's memory card.

I'd like to transfer those over to my N86 now, but I can't seem to do it. Can anyone help me out?

There is no other camera phone that can even touch this thing. :buddies:

on the phone right now w/ nokiausa checking order status...

.. still on 'preorder' they say. Transferring to fulfillment to cancel order.

edit: for the naysayers that said you can't cancel your order easily and w/o an 'excuse' - that's bs. I just got a cancellation ref. number.

I find the email on the N86 pretty good. I am using it to check 3 accounts....my OVI email, my Live email and also using the built-in MFE to check my corporate exchange email account.

So basically I am using both the built-in Nokia Messaging and Mail for Exchange and they work great on the N86.

I also use it on my E71 (albeit with the current version that I download) and I must say that it is just as good as that...maybe even a little better on my N86.

You cant compare the slider form of the N86 to the candy bar form of the N82. Its apples to oranges. I also stated the average of users on this board is about 6 weeks. Nokia is yet to produce a slider that has stellar build quality. This is part of the reason why I am hesitant to get the N86. Less moving parts, means less to break.

Dude ... to much damn doubts, sorry & complaining!!!! Start a blog to contribute OR contribute by posting on Symbian Foundation blog so that your voice is HEARD by those that should IMPLEMENT these ideas and necessities. I'm trying on your behalf but i'm very patient.

COMPLETELY agree on the call log! Thank you for the reminder.

"Type Ahead" is what you're after on email TO field. Outlook uses a file called outlook.N2K. Lotus Notes i think uses a bookmark.nsf file but I could be wrong its been a while since I've troubleshooted this.

Android still suffers from generally crappy hardware. I thought Droid would be different..., but am sadly mistaken. Droid is not "the one." X10 looks good, but lacks the QWERTY I want and is atrociously priced. While Nokia hasn't been pushing cutting edge, they still delivered unmatched convergence ability, and good solid hardware, even if their OS and UI remain a bit awkward. I agree on N900 being more potential, though. I look forward to the second or third Maemo phone and hope it goes to N97 slider form factor and comparing it against whatever Android has cooking. Hopefully a second or third iteration of Droid from Moto, and if SE is still alive that they'll answer with a QWERTY+big touchscreen of their own.

N900 still answers the UI deficiency that Nokia refused to acknowledge until N97, but answered the platform whining (proving that noone is ever satisfied, they shifted to complaining about something else). :D
