Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, it may have something to do with Nokia now offering free navigation for all 5th ed devices. Previously that was only available on the Nav edition which was it's purpose for existing. Maybe they are just letting the Nav edition owners experience the update first to make up for the fact that they paid more money for a feature that Nokia is now offering for free. I don't like it, but it does make some sense. Another theory is that the Nav edition has not been selling well, so Nokia is trying to offer some incentive to buying the nav edition over the regular 5800.

I think Nokia needs to give up on these special editions of phones, and just make a few models in each series and then support them.

When converted properly they look amazing, this is where it excels in my opinion, i wish they would have allowed it to play videos like the n96 that plays at almost any bitrate, but it dont so you need to convert. :buddies:

That's the Navi product code that I posted about on February 22nd (message #1608 of this thread). So yea, we know about that. But thanks anyway.

Okay, so v40 is now available for yet another NAM product code through NSU. But... it is not the XM 0577454, it's some other PC. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 0577454 the most common one for the NAM XpressMusic?

Comparing it to the v40 firmware for the Navi, it seems to be slightly different.

Files that appear to be the same:

Files that are different:

Anyone know what those are for (that last one is significantly larger)?

I was down in LA for a week, and had a chance to use OVI Maps on my 5800. I must say, for a free voice-guided GPS, it's pretty darn good. 9 time out of 10, I was able to get satellite-lock within 10 seconds. The directions and street name pronounciation were as good as my Garmin stand-alone GPS. If only the speaker volume were a bit louder. Maybe I should have used it with the headphones. So, yeah, if the speaker volume were louder, and perhaps if it had a bigger screen, then there would be no need to carry a separate GPS.

Custom or different themes have caused problems with these phones. Also, are you installing your apps to the memory card or phone memory? I always install them on the phone memory.

So i ran the app update yesterday. there is one that says live tv. After I DL the program and installed, it asks about a bluetooth tv accessory. What is this ? Anyone see this ? Tom

i'm not liking a lot of the c6 fw that i tried. a lot of them have stuff missing that i use. or added things i don't use lol plus that dumb bug when you phone is in landscape when it rings and you have to wait for it to go portrait to pick up.

Do you have any info about the scrambled screen? I'm sick of dealing with my screen and haven't sent it in for repair and not looking forward to dealing with nokia repair.

Anyone that doesnt like the way that the notification light works on the 5800 should check out lightsignalplus. It lights up the green and red keys at a faster rate, more like the e71 which I loved. Your phone needs to be hacked but Im pretty sure half the people have this done. Just thought Id throw this out there. Id post a link but I dont know whether its allowed or not...

Hmm you're one the few that successfully flashed to a euro firmware, now why would hou want to go back to nam if everything works? Lol but to answer your question, i don't see why not. As long as the firmware version number is the same or bigger it should be fine
