Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Nope, it's not, because there's currently no 'kinetic' to it...i.e. when you take your finger off the screen during a swipe it stops dead. Kinetic means that a 'finger flick' with set it rolling and the screen will then 'coast' a bit before settling at a new spot on the virtual landscape.

put the indicator anywhere you want and drag it to the end of the line in the direction you want to go down. it highlights and scrolls. let go when you're in the general area and use the arrows from there.

has anyone found an easy way to enter their wlan wep key on the 5800?? I have it copied to the clipboard, but when I go to the screen to paste the wep key it only gives you the T9 keyboard with no option to paste...

i will tell you that once you get the feel of exactly how to press the screen, and where to press each icon, it gets very easy. same with web browsing, at first you are gonna hate it. it wont be responsive. but once you learn the best way to press the sreen it all falls in place. at least for me.

opera mini needs a special touch to click links. i cant explain it, but touch VERY light and it will register. scrolling is no problem.

v51 is now officially available for RM-428, product code 0591814. It shows up in Navifirm and Ovi Suite, but not available as FOTA. Updated via Ovi Suite without issue. Glad it finally got released!

Yeah, It seems like the ability to use Real player and setup streaming links to internet radio sites has been removed. I can't add them anymore. Also, when the screen was not locked, but turned off, you used to be able to touch it to light it back up.

Very odd. Don't know if this will matter...I did the update through wifi with NO sim card. I thought it was odd that it would let me update with no SIM installed, as an update through NSU always requires one.

Huh? Aren't you talking about the built-in client? You start saying you configured Gmail in the built-in client and end up by saying this offers more options than the built-in client. I'm confused.

If you are indeed referring to the built-in e-mail client (which supports IMAP4, POP3, etc.) and if I remember correctly from other editions of S60, there should be a way to control how many headers are synced in the account configuration, whether by count or by number of days.

Yea, try that. Turn the phone off. Then press and hold the Send (red) + End (green) + Camera buttons along with the power button. Continue holding until you see the Nokia logo.

Here is a pic of T9 on the 5800:

...and the dial pad:

I DO NOT understand why Nokia decided to omit the letters form the dial pad. My work voicemail requires us to spell the last name of the recipient. Impossible w/o letters. Fortunately, a theme with the proper skin can add the letters but I've only seen one theme that did (and it was awful). Hopefully more designers (or Nokia...hello??) will add the letters back. No reason why they should have been taken off.

Nope, unfortunetly theres now way to shrink those icons BUT if you are on V40 fw id suggest using the Contacts Bar homescreen, then turn off both the Contacts bar and Email notification, the Shorcuts will be at the bottom leaving the rest of the screen clear. Hope that helps. :)

I am not so sure....I believe Apple is as much a hardware company as much as software, if not more so. This is the description from the Google Finance page for AAPL:

Apple Inc. (Apple) designs, manufactures, and markets personal computers, mobile communication devices, and portable digital music and video players, and sells a variety of related software, services, peripherals, and networking solutions. The Company sells its products worldwide through its online stores, its retail stores, its direct sales force, and third-party wholesalers, resellers, and value-added resellers. In addition, the Company sells a variety of third-party Macintosh (Mac), iPhone and iPod compatible products, including application software, printers, storage devices, speakers, headphones, and various other accessories and peripherals through its online and retail stores, and digital content and applications through the iTunes Store. The Company sells to consumer, small and mid-sized business (SMB), education, enterprise, government and creative customers. In December 2009, the Company acquired digital music service Lala.

i'd at least get rid of the big buttons at the top of the keyboard, and on the screen where the letters show up, make that actually be whatever you're typing in say a text box on the page rather than just go to like another screen completely with the keyboard.
