Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

I wouldn't say they're quiet either... I'm just going off video reviews where people said its the loudest nokia yet and thats definitely not true at all. On a scale of 1-10, my n95 is a 9 in loudness, and the 5800 is a 7.

I've been doing a lot of shopping for this phone lately and here is what I've found in the past week or two.

As of today, Dell probably has the best deal, $269.99, but if you have to pay tax and shipping, it quickly ramps up the price.

I ordered mine last week from Amazon for $299.99, but no shipping and tax, plus I had a $50 gift card.

They've been as low as $200 or so from Dell in the past, but again, you may have to factor in tax and shipping and some of the past deals had a rebate to deal with as well.

All the reasonable ebay auctions were $250+ for new ones.

Direct from Nokia it is $299.99, but they give pretty reasonable trade in values for old (but not too old) phones. Like my 6650 was fetching $60+ for trade in. But I believe they charge tax and maybe shipping too.

All prices are USD by the way.

But it does have kinetic. Its just not as smooth as on the iPhone or Milestone and scroll bars are still present. Its a hardware limitation mostly as resistive vs capacitive. On X6 kinetic just as smooth as on above mentioned devices. And I agree that kinetic is mostly "cool" but functionality wise is near useless.

You are quite silly.

I didn't post a picture of the specific earbuds that come with the phone.

I posted pictures of the 2 different types of earbuds that can come with a Nokia 5800. The ones that go further in your canal, and the ones that fit into the entire ear.

Nobody got white earbuds with their 5800.

I made that very clear with my post. As I said that the earbuds in the pictures looked like the earbuds that come with the phone, not that those are exact pictures of Nokia earbuds.

You need to read more carefully.

That is Nokia's bungled attempt to replace the Download app with the Ovi Store app. One of those Ovi Store icons used to be your Download icon.

I got rid of the 2nd Ovi icon and got Download back, but I don't recall how. Looking at my phone now I see that I have neither Download! (15kb) or D!Replacement (1kb) installed, so I guess that's what I deleted.

Hmm... and my Ovi Store is smaller than yours (785 KB)? View details says it's version 1.05(508).

just a bunch of photos that they include and some songs. and some vids. stuff that you would usually delete for space anyways.

formatting the card, will help with the distortion, but it won't necessarily eliminate it completely. if you have songs with a lot of bass, it will still be there.

If are using same wifi ap with the same name most of the time then set this ap as your priority one for Internet.I've had same problem with google maps,it just kept asking for packet data connection until I changed destination and priority.

it's pretty good, 1.5 days if i don't touch the phone too much. but for everyday use, just under a day. and if i'm really bored, then it's a lot less. especially with mobbler, that thing just kills your batteries, as well as make the phone extremely hot. i have to use it with a fan for cooling.

yea the battery life meter sucks. mines in accurate as well, it seems like the OS freezes up or something. cause i'll restart my phone and it'll become accurate for a few hours, then i'll have to restart again to refresh. otherwise, it'll show that it's half full for practically the whole day

I think it depends on the person.. I can definatly type way faster on my iPhone than my 5800... If the 5800 had predictive text while in full qwerty, I'm sure it would be about the same as the iPhone..

Again, I imagine this is going to be different for everyone.

quick question--Have I totally overlooked flight mode? Is this mode when you touch on the carrier name and choose the offline profile? It appears that it does shut off the network, then when you touch normal profile, the system asks, access network? Im guessing this is flight mode? Whatta you guys think?.......Tom

has anyone set up their 5800 to sync to google calendar? Any tips/tricks? I'm in MfE setup and I can't find all the fields I need. I had this working well on my E51 previously... Thanks..

Update:
Ok. For the better part of say 12 hours, I figured out how to place FW into the directories needed for Phoenix 2010 to find them. I kept getting an error that said DP1.0 and DP2.0 cannot be found..... something to that effect. I finally got the flash to start, but at the end when the countdown begins and it waits for communication with device, it times out and an error box pops up and it says flashing failed. Started over, failed again. Back at square one. So I'm looking through my firmwares that I have downloaded. To my shock, I realized that the rofs.2 and rofs.3 custom firmware files were RM-356. The .C00 core firmware was RM-428. Even the full RM-428 40.0.5 0574994 would not work. I eventually downloaded RM-356 50.0.5 Euro2Navi firmware 0586819 from Navifirm. I loaded it into Phoenix and the flash succeded! Can I go back to NA RM-428 firmware when it becomes available? Phone is working fine with 3.5G and all. What's wierd though is that the really bad scrambled screen problen I had is gone with this firmware. I had to place the screen near a heat source for about 5 min. for it to be used.
