Nokia 5800 XM NAM(850/1900): Reviews, Issues, Tips, Tricks & Support Thread!!

Hey guys - since this is the tips and tricks thread....anyone have some advice / support / tips on the "where and when" you should be single-tapping or double-tapping? I'm noticing that it isn't always as intuitive as I would expect...i.e. which icons / lists / items you would single-tap to activate as opposed to double-tapping to activate. I'm a very experienced S60 user, and also have had plenty of time on the iPhone and Storm touch screen environments as well. However, this is still throwing me for a loop on my 5800 NAM (all be it I have only been playing with it for 24 hours), where I thought it would come a bit quicker.

Thanks - and please - keep the tips, tricks and advice for this baby coming in this thread!

See, I would disagree, personally. T9 makes so much more sense, specifically on a smaller device like a phone. There's less buttons, which means it's easier to type out words (assuming you have a decent T9 dictionary stored up). It also reduces the chances of spelling errors, which is nice (cause I *hate* when people send me SMS in that stupid shorthand. 'k catch u l8r'. Retarded.

I have a feeling that part of the reason for that is to give us 5800 owners more incentive to upgrade to the N97 when it's released since it has that capability.

There were a lot of good things about the 5800XM: Crystal clear calls, great reception, gorgeous display, nice MP3 playback.

The thing around the power button on my 5800XM cracked. That's because of poor build quality.

Anyway, I still use the phone to surf the internet via Wifi when I'm in bed late at night.

I just like Qwerty Keyboard on my E71 much better than the touchscreen on the 5800XM. Much easier to correspond via Email and this mode.

If I could have the screen resolution of the 5800XM on my E71, with the chip of the E72, I'd be in heaven. But Nokia is always looking to cut corners in some regard.

I'm a businessman, so I like the business features of the e71.

BTW, I've been using my N79 for 18 months now and the phone hasn't crashed once yet. Nothing great about the phone, just always works without a problem.

Some v50 upgraders have stated that on the new fw the touchscreen vibrate levels one and two are mixed up - 1 is 2 and 2 is 1. How did Nokia manage do that kinda mistake I wonder  They NEVER get any of their firmwares perfect, there's always use for a bugspray

I'm gonna take my 5800 to a Nokia Care Center tomorrow for the first time in a year that I have had it. The screen is s*it, everytime I get a call, I can't see who's calling 'cos the screen is unreadable and full of colored lines. I'm pissed

Try your local club and/or busy downtown..... just kidding. :allred:

What I would like to know is how to delete those default browser bookmarks, ie: download themes, sounds, songs, etc. I have explore which let me delete a lot of default folders, which get in the way, and truly clear my cache which had 50MB of junk in it at one point. Does anyone know how?

I'm using this phone 5 month. It is good phone, but there are some unlike things:
1. Sometime the screen rotates when the phone wants, but not I!
2. It is difficult write sms without stylus.
3. I can not add new music files to playlist, it is necessary rescan all files.

I was excited about this feature, but I can't get it to work right for me, I launch the maps and pick to lock my location and it won't budge.

I don't have data, but I do have wifi, Am I doing something wrong? I was on my balcony not in my basement so there should be a signal

On the subject of the cheapest place to get it...NokiaUSA had a 10% off and they lowered their price significantly--

I can't even get it to give me the right version of the application.

I created an account on the NM site, selected my phone, and downloaded the application. The phone warned me that I had the wrong version of the application but I installed it anyway - sure enough it seemed to be a non-touchscreen version. So I uninstalled and went through the whole process again making sure that I selected the right phone selected (5800). The result was the same - it is giving me the wrong version.

A confirmation e-mail that I received from Nokia Messaging told me that I could download by browsing to "tttp://netac12.vie.hosting.nokia.com" on my phone, and then I could select the download link, but there is no download link on that page.

How did you download it?

It also has different camera specs. My 5800 says 2.8/3.7, and the one in the picture says 2.8/4.6. I know virtually nothing about photography, so I'm not sure which is better (if that's even a measurement of betterness), but it's interesting that they're different specs.

Hey group..Im looking for a 3.5mm speaker to plug into the 5800. To clarify slightly, I came over from SE w610 and grabbed a MPS 75...If u can believe it..the plug in accessory is super loud and makes a huge noticable difference...Ive been looking for such an accessory for my 5800..cant find one. I know there is a nokia md-8 speaker..Its so lame..the 5800 speakers blow it away...Can anyone relate to this situation??? just askin...Tom
