New Evangelion Movie Hits September 1st, 2007!

New trailer was pretty impressive. It seems like they're going to be re-doing a lot of old shots with better art...I noticed more than a couple that were practically lifted from the episodes.

Either way, this looks pretty nice. I like what they did with Shamshel, he was always one of the least impressive or memorable Angels...plus he looked like a giant floating wang.
 
That was a fairly major scene, as it was the last time that
Shinji ever saw Misato alive.
Looking at the trailers, it seems that a lot of the new stuff is the exact same scenes spruced up with better animation. Thus, I really doubt they'll edit it out. It's hardly the most controversial scene in Evangelion...lest we forget that scene in the hospital room with a comatose Asuka.
 
Still pointless. Of course, it's my opinion only. I'm entitled to that, right?

I always felt that the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy remake seemed pointless after I saw the original TV series. And yes, the movie trilogy had new animation too. 1st movie about 5%. 2nd movie 10%, 3rd movie 20%.
 
So if it takes place after Hellish World, i guess they would fight Satan or something??? Or just show how Asuka and Shinji grow up in a world with them... i guess.

It seems more logical to take place before, or AU...
 
Well, this is only the first movie and it's been said that the Rebuild ending will be "all new," so it's much too early to say whether or not the events of EoE (as we know them) will take place.
 
I have to say this is looking pretty sweet. I'm excited to see how this all comes together, and what the new version is going to look like. It definitely looks like they're keeping the feel of Eva here.
 
Did a bit of digging, found out the new theme song for the movie.

While living up to Cruel Angel's Thesis would be pretty hard to do, Utada Hikaru's "Beautiful World" does have a charming quality that pleases me.
 
Seconded. I never liked the
"Misato secretly has feelings for Shinji" business in the later episodes and EoE. Even ignoring the moral issues there, Shinji's just so...unappealing. Misato's messed up, but she couldn't be that desperate.

It's bad enough that there are spin-off games that turn Eva into a generic harem show. It's disappointing to see a character as complex as Misato reduced to "the MILF".
 
Yeah, I have a problem with this too. I'm unfortunately reminded of 2010: The Year We Made Contact.

However, I wouldn't have a problem if, say, the sequel is a nice long psychoanalytical conversation between Shinji and Asuka:

"Anta, baka? Of course I'm Asuka! Who the hell do you think I am!"
 
According to some of the earlier reports, we may actually see Rei expressing emotion somewhat. Something to do with voice recasting, 'parently.

Since Anno has spent much of his post-GAiNAX career poking fun at his 'angry teen phase', he might have felt this a good opportunity to go back and rectify things somewhat.
