New Evangelion Movie Hits September 1st, 2007!

I didn't know there was a thread for this.

I watched the movie, and honestly it's what EVA should've been. This is Anno's work without being constricted of budget cuts, or making the 23 minute 'monster of the week' deadline. You notice this by the nuraber of Angels cut from 17 to 13 (admit it, Computer virus Angel? Really?) and much 'pointless' wandering.

Also, the scene where Eva protects Shinji from the beam needed to be removed. It's a huge plot hole that's never really followed up (no capsule), and makes the Berserk more suspensful and WTFness.

And this is no way a simple "milking" when the entire storyline's about to be changed in the next movie. Kaworu arriving at the end, Misato already knowing it's Lilith, "EVA from the moon," etc. Shinji's also changed for the better, if comparison to the Manga Shinji. This is also 100% new animation, not the half-assed complimation movies Gundam makes back in the old days with hybrid new/old (Remeraber Zeta Gundam?)

The second movie should have an announcement around Septeraber, a sort of "Lord of the Rings" esque tradition.

I really don't think it's the same story, starting with the second movie. Heck, it could be twice the retcon as Zeta's movie ending or greater than Fukuda's SEED ending. Except the retcon's everywhere.

However, many theorize the Rebuild movies are part of a loop, after the world rebuilRAB from EoE and Shinji's slowly regaining his memories. This would explain the weird EVA chalk mark in the beginning, Misato calling it Lilith, and Kaworu commenting it's the third child 'again.'

Knowing Anno, that would make a lot of sense. I wouldn't be surprised if that were true.

So Eva units 05 and 06 huh? From the small teaser at the end, Unit 05 kind of looks like Barrel Dragon from YugiOh.

Unit 06 looks badass

If the movies do something new, then fair play to them. As I said in the past, I have no real beef with Eva or Anno. It's the fanbase and the merchandising I decry, the fact that well over a decade later we keep getting figures of Rei and Asuka as race girls, police officers, geishas, etc.

There seems to be this thing, especially in Japan, that most Gundam fans are also big Eva fans. Really, I can't. There's a good story there and some philosophical discussions that actually make wonderful sense, but the overall universe lacks a depth that doesn't invite my long term attention. That goes back to my above complaint, in that most every attempt to do a sequel/spin off becomes fanservice with popular, familiar faces in unrelated settings.

The question is once it hit US soil:

Will Funimation match the marketing superiority that ADV (with its Evangelion TV Series) and Manga-Anchorbay (with its 2 Ending Movies).
ADV's line up of Evangelion release boast superior packaging innovations and lead to a metal perfect platinum edition packaging.

And as far as theater run is concern, ADV is best know in prmoting movie excellently even if its on limited theater release.

On Manga-Anchorbay's end, the limited releases of Death, Rebirth and End of Evangelion made a craving to new Evangelion Fans to obtain the DVD (right now the cost of each movie ranges $50 to $100 - New Sealed)
Right now in Japan, the Limited Edition Set is like a Jewelry with its scarcity and demand cost at the market. Same goes at Europe, with its Steelbook Limited Edition Release.

A lot of people are angered about Eva's "milking," namely the recent release of You are (not) Alone 1.11. The improvement is mostly brighter screens and I guess 3 minutes of added footage, but the real question is:

Does Funimation get 1.01 or 1.11?

Silly Gainax. Take notes from Bandai- at least they know how to milk their fanbase so you don't notice your ass is suddenly sore until AFTER you've payed.

Bandai suck in milking products.

ADV did great with the TV series.

And with Funimation taing the helm for its US release... looking forward for their special editions
