New Evangelion Movie Hits September 1st, 2007!

RS is world wide in fact!! what really amazes me is the fact that they include an animated character on the cover (though i'm sure this isnt the first time they've done it)

At least Anno's making new canon material, rather than just making more "Asuka and Rei are nurses/mermaiRAB/Final Fantasy characters/etc." figures. (Though that'll surely happen anyway...)

To be fair all the "milking" thus far has been merchandise related. There hasn't been any new animation since 1997, and really all we have are the 26 episodes and EoE. This isn't exactly Gundam we're talking about.

As for Anno just doing this for the money, like it wasn't still gonna bring in a ton of money regardless. What, were they gonna stop making Rei figurines unless Anno made a new movie? Did the merchandising contracts have some kind of "new movie" clause that they're forcing him to live up to?

Though the short production time makes me worry that this will be more clip show than new footage.

Eh. For a trailer, it's pretty poorly put together. Nobody who isn't already acquainted with the show would find it interesting. The digital work is pretty but the animation itself doesn't seem like much to write home about. Looks less like a movie and more like what the TV show would have looked like if it actually had a budget. Well, that was a surprisingly good Fly Me to the Moon cover.

If the previous Eva movies were any indication, the new movies may be out of ADV's price range. (Though I'll say it now, despite the inevitable flames: I hope whoever gets the rights brings back the VA cast. Just don't let Amanda Winn Lee do the commentary.)

It's not a big deal. Rei Ayanami is a very iconic character in Japan; it's the equivalent of Captain Jack Sparrow appearing on an American Rolling Stone cover.

ETA: And here's more Rebuild footage. Hope none of you are sick of "Beautiful World" yet.

The only interest I have is if they actually have a different cast, in which case you don't need to "bring back the original VAs". Personally, I think if they're trotting out Shinji and his buddies again along with a few new characters, this is just boring. I mean, how much more do we need to know about Shinji and frienRAB? Do we WANT to know more about them? Frankly, I'm tired of Rei, Shinji and Asuka now. Even if you weren't a fan of Eva you probably know everything about them by now, and probably more than you ever wanted to as well.

The bread and butter of Eva was the character moments. Getting rid of the cast would be a bad move. I mean, the story itself isn't interesting at all, but the characters made the show worth watching.
