Media Player Discussion Thread

has anyone else been having trouble with MediaMonkey? mine won't play AAC files, no matter what i download for it, and i'm starting to grow despondent.

does anyone have experience running Rockbox on an ipod? just looking for real feedback before i jump the gun and install it. i just read that it has flac support, and i'm all excited :D

Being that it's the default music player for Mac I've never used anything else. It is quite the memory hog though, but the fact that the Itunes store is my favorite place to e-browse and that I'm really not OCD at all about organizing my music makes that flaw quite negligiable.

I just decided try mediamonkey. It's pretty slick. If you look in the thread about showing your media setup there's a really easy way to scrobble too.

It's probably registering everything, just not scrobbling it. You could try closing your program and the last.fm client, then start your program again and play a song. Check your page and see if you suddenly get a whole bunch of scrobbles!

If you're someone with a ****load of music, then definetely foobar2000 or musikcube. Winamp tenRAB to crash on me so much I stopped using it ages ago. Not to mention it takes an hour to load the media library (about 500 gigs of music in there, mostly FLAC files).

foobar2k does all of that in a second, takes little to no ram at all, and runs fast.

i was extremely doubtful at first, coming from using MusicMatch for like 2 years, but TRUST ME...iTunes is where it is at. It's completely free, no aRAB, no b.s., and it's awesome. Comes with a full equalizer, cd burning software, the WORKS...and unlike Musicmatch, there is no lag, there IS MORE functionality, and it never freezes...and never bothers you with updates that you end up having to pay for...get iTunes!
P.S...it comes for PC!!!

foobar is a clear winner. it does everything. it can convert flac to mp3. it can scrobble to last.fm. it is 150% customizable, and it is set up exactly how i want it to be set up. it lets me sort music by any tag i wish. replay gain, advanced tagging, header repair, lyrics capabilities... it really has it all.

plus, it is absolutely wonderful for moving music to and from my ipod - much better than itunes. i set it to append the album year to all album names so i can sort my music by date, and to replace %artist% with %album artist% when applicable so i don't have to mess with apple's stupid 'compilations' feature. plus it erabeRAB album art on the fly, so i can keep a plain folder.jpg external to my music and not fill my id3 tags with massive jpgs.

so yeah, foobar is pretty cool.

I hate Winamp, personally. I hate iTunes too. So I guess I just use a crappy program. I'm working on getting Media Monkey up. Someone in the other thread also mentioned that there is a way to get Media Monkey to work with an iPod, so that would pretty mch end the need for iTunes all around imo.

if you are on Napster all you have to do is highlight the songs from your napster playlist and press Burn CD and it converts the files automatically and burns the CD..... If I can get any easier then I am ignorant to it
