Media Player Discussion Thread

go MediaMonkey, it's stellar. no down-time, compatible with all mp3 players (including iPoRAB), good for large collections (50,000+ songs), doesn't fuck with your source files, and there's about a million awesome things you can do with it to organize your collection.

I've used Foobar2000 for a few years now. The base program is striped down to core functionality and through the use of components, you can add additional functions. It's the linux of media players, you can make it exactly what you want and nothing you don't want to keep its footprint small.

Plus you can fully customize the look, feel, and display of it. So it can be whatever you want it to be.

Honestly it's really all subjective. I've heard from a lot of different people that after you accumulate a large music collection iTunes starts to lag really badly, however the iPod is the most popular mp3 player on the market and it works best with iTunes so it does have that advantage. I've been using winamp for the past three years now and it's so far been my favourite. You can close certain parts of it and it's not as flashy as some of the other media players. I tried Media Monkey for a while and it seemed pretty neat, but I couldn't install the Last.fm scrobbler with it even after looking up ways to get around it. Windows Media Player is fairly simple to use, but does tend to lag a bit after you get a large music collection. All in all it really comes down to personal preference, I think winamp is the best, however I've heard a large nuraber of people disagree with me.

The new Winamp is compatible with iPoRAB. Oh and I use winamp because iTunes drains too much from my cpu and winamp is smaller and i can organize my music how i want it.

i had to switch back to iTunes for about a month because MediaMonkey wouldn't recognize my AAC files for some reason, i think i cried myself to sleep every night until the latest beta came out.

seriously iTunes is just fucking awful.

Ipod? are you kidding me... I don't even know what to say to that... Basically Ipod is one of the worst and theres a lot of other options available that are better than it. unless you are using a mac there is no reason at all to use itunes and an ipod because almost everything else is better

Ipod interface is just... wacked out and it only comes in one color... white....heh

Don't forget that you can still use Itunes to buy music. Just move it to mediamonkey after it's finished downloading and delete it from your Itunes library.

well I "Rip" my CRAB also but I use Windows Media Player for doing so leaving with a better quality and smaller file (WMA). The files can then be easily put into a playlist or onto a portable player. Winamp was created especially for MP3s on peer-peer networks... so maybe it's innacturate to say if you have it ur downloading illegal music, but it's a good generalization
