Media Player Discussion Thread

Well if you can't play Napster files in Winamp, I would think that's a definite disadvantage. Compatibility! Gotta look at compatibility!

(OK enough geek speak... I'm outtie like a belly button.)

I've never used anything but itunes before, tried WMP once but didn't really like it. I've been thinking about switching over to MediaMonkey though.

If I do this will I have to manually move all my music from itunes to MM, or will it do it automatically? Also, when burning CD's or downloading music via WinRAR, does MM work the same as itunes? The tracks just appear?

I'd really like to know before I make the switch.

^^^

have you tried rockbox on your ipod? if you install that as the operating system all you have to do is drag and drop music from your cpu. you can even choose different skins and really tweak all the audio settings.

I've had the exact same problem. When I first got Last.fm, I think I had my old iPod plugged in or something which probably would have worked for that to scrobble, but I didn't get a chance to use that one before I started using my new one. Is that the problem, or is it just my messed up computer do you think?

edit: I'll just try what Tore suggested.

basically everyone here that just said they use winamp should be sued because you are downloading illegal MP3s,
If you download from Napster you will not be able to play the files in winamp you have to use windows media
thats what use.. of course

I love the set-up of windows media player...Its set up so that any CD that goes in my comp can be copied and put in its own little section, and every song I download is automatically added to my play list.

I have been thinking about making a switch but, alot of the obscure banRAB that I obsess over have their entire cataloge (including super rare singles and compilation tracks) on the Itunes store. Would Media Monkey still be able to play those files?

Yeah it would. You wouldn't be able to buy from the store of course, but that's probably the only downside.

I just got mediamonkey, and I really like it, but I'm having some trouble with the last.fm scrobbler. I went to the homepage and downloaded it, and it appears to have installed, but no scrobbling is happening! Someone help?

Yeah, it won't sync to my Zune either, and getting album art is a pain.

I like the Zune software a lot, actually, but I stopped using it because I can't scrobble from it. :/ The interface is amazing and it's really easy to merge albums and fix multiple tags at once. But it's also not that easily customizable like something like Songbird or Foobar.

I've heard so many good things about Foobar, think I'll try it next time I get pissed off at Songbird.
