Wow - you could actually work to get them a distributor! I don't think it's impossible - I did it for a record company at a local store. I wanted them to carry the label, desperately, and they were hip to the idea.

It's also a good way to get your foot into the film industry door...

Mukooh, I'm so jealous that you get to see all those indie films as they come out.

I usually have to wait till video, and so I forget about most of them.

Thirteen and Lost in Traslation recently opened in my area... I hope to see both.

I bought a copy of The Eye off Ebay but haven't seen it yet.

I've finally had time to go to the theatre and saw Pirates of the Caribbean... great fun, enjoyed it much... Johnny Depp was awesome! Then saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico a couple of days later for more Johnny... I thought it was O-K... kinda weird.
Then saw The Rundown last night... which I enjoyed.

I rented three DVDs which I'll watch sometime this weekend... The Mighty Wind, Spider and Lost in La Mancha.

Theatre-wise... I'm looking forward to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Kill Bill, Gothika, and *cough*House of the Dead*cough*

This is (was? Hehe) the Big General Discussion. :lol: This is like the place where you come and maybe write an essay about whatever, or discuss the current state of cinema, wether Pixar going to Disney was the end of world, etc, etc, it's a free for all.

But mainly people just discuss/compare all kinds of movies instead of just focusing one. :wiggle:
 
Wait - I'm still the mod, just using my other name in honor of the movie coming out this week (or were you teasing me?). And when did Laura stop being a mod??? I'm so confused!

Aww - too bad I can't meet you. I think it would have been fun. But if you're in town, let me know - we could at least get together for tea.

And I'm such a horrible person - I should have sent you a "Thank You" card because I absolutely love the movie and CDs - they're wonderful. I even played them for this guy I'm seeing, who's not only into the blues, but is a classically trained guitar player (went to music college, and everything).

I'm so sorry you're in a funk - wish I could think of a movie to cheer you up, but from Laura's tepid review, A Mighty Wind, which would have been my first choice, is out.

But I totally get what you mean about the other shoe dropping.

I'm not sure, but I think I'm over my Hindi movie craze for now. I just can't get back into it - I've seen too many mediocre ones (although the classics are still up there in my list of favorites). *sigh*

Maybe it's just the weather...

Heck, we never even got The Pianist or Far From Heaven. The common denominator? They're both from Focus Features. Methinks they don't have a distributor here in the Philippines.

Punch-Drunk Love hits theaters in a couple of weeks!

Just found out he's playing in A Long Day's Journey Into Night on Broadway, until August 31st. And I just happen to be in New York during August for my holidays - looks like I shall have to (a) queue for years for an expensive ticket or (b) lurk like a stalker outside the stage door. (b) sounds good

Oh god I want to see that!! I saw most of it when the animated Beauty And The Beast came out and liked it, then was so excited when I saw they were going to reair it a few weeks ago. Then they didn't because of all that silly war coverage, and there's no sign of it being rescheduled

As far as foreign film goes I haven't seen enough French - only Breathless comes immediately to mind and I can't say I was too impressed with that. But I love love LOVE German cinema

I still doubt it. Pinoy film distributors suck. I mean, I can't even find a copy of The Talented Mr. Ripley anymore, and that's a recent American movie. How the heck am I gonna find an older foreign film?

No, I haven't, but I still plan to - and I meant to tell you that Warm Water Under the Bridge is now available on DVD, and on my NetFlix queue.

Xan - you're so funny.

I hate to admit it, especially to Laura, but I couldn't watch Pumpkin. I had it for two weeks but couldn't get up the energy to watch it - however, I plan on reordering it from NetFlix when I'm more in the mood for something like that.

Also, I was planning on seeing an Iranian film, but it, too, was a bit too much for me right now (which is strange, considering I just watched Capturing the Friedmans).
 
I just saw this - very cute, and I'm glad they went with that particular ending. However - the music was too much. I mean, I don't want to go back to junior high! *shudders* ;)

P Y R O - I'm just not keen on the look of that film from what I saw in the ads...

I love Tim Roth, so Emilie, as always, I'm affectionately envious!

I liked Phone Booth - it was a surprise, because I thought it would be awful, so that's good.

PVScully - I know what you mean. I keep trying to get to the theaters, but RL keeps getting in the way.

I'm back to my NetFlix addiction, but nothing really stands out. I watched From Hell last night and thought it was an interesting twist on the Jack the Ripper story (and uses all the real clues that we have to date about his identity). Sure, it was given a pseudo-Hollywood ending, but otherwise it was interesting, I guess because I've always been interesting in the case, given the high profile suspects and the sheer brutality of the murders...

Also, I watched Orange County and not only laughed, but thought it was much better than the critics gave it credit for (but then, I wasn't expecting to like it at all, so it could only go up in my estimation).

I saw something I wanted to post to mukooh about...Oh! I watched The Kid Stays in the Picture, on your recommendation, and liked it. Granted, it was pretty overly dramatic (the use of film scenes to portray his breakdown was a bit over the top), but he's still a very charismatic figure, and I really grew to like him, not to mention his significance to the film industry. And I really felt bad about his break up with Ali McGraw, and thought that part of the film was an apology to her. Overall, rather charming, really - go Bob Evans!

Hmm...I know there's more, but I can't think of them now. I'll come back - promise.

I just rewatched Dead Man Walking and cried my eyes out - he's so good. Still haven't seen Mystic River, but I definitely plan to.

And I know, but usually I'm a movie addict - ever since I got cable in my bedroom, though, I just haven't had the energy to watch...

I saw it at the movies when it came out in France and I... fell asleep. I'm so ashamed! I never do that at the movies, I guess I was pretty tired

The last movie I watched was Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Highly enjoyable, especially in context of what it intended to be. :)
