Sure, I like the adventure

Take recently, I was looking up the week's films on TV in my movie guide to see which I wanted and one wasn't there so I headed to imdb. The imdb listing had: cast only in alphabetical order, under 5 votes, no plot summary, no user comments, no anything! So of course I had to tape it

It's like discovering something new, y'know?

I finally saw Amelie this past weekend and loved it. What a charming, heartwarming film.

Thank you to those who suggested Netflix. I absolutely love the service.

Oh, xan, that sucks!

Well, I've had copies of No Man's Land and The Ya-Ya Sisterhood for over a week now, and can't seem to get up enough steam to watch them. Guess I'll be returning them to NetFlix - it's not like I can't re-rent them in the future...

Yep - I see movies I know little or nothing about all the time - but not in the theater, I rent them.

I like the surprise, and for the most part I haven't been dissappointed.

So...I have a huge thing to confess - I actually loved the second Matrix film - and I think it was even better than the first.

I totally get why people hated it - it made you think and action films aren't supposed to do that. But the story behind the story is brilliant, and asks all sorts of relevant questions about human existence, and the human psyche (and what is "perfection of thinking"). I can't say enough positive about this film, and hope I can discuss it with someone...

i'm glad to see that the thread has picked up again...

i saw equilibrium' around christmas time last year....it wasn't promoted very much...and in the county that i live in it was only shown in 2 theaters....when i saw it there were only 2 other people in the audience...it's a great "popcorn" movie...with plenty of "cheap thrills"...mindless entertainment....but christian bale makes it all worth watching...
wink.gif

i'm off work again for a few days...so i plan on seeing
'i capture the castle' 'masked and anonymous' 'lucia/lucia' and 'mondays in the sun'........

regal entertainment which owns most of the theaters where i live has started a regal crown club....for every movie you go to you get points....9 dollars for a movie, 9 points.....earn 75 points and you get a free movie...on thursdays you get free popcorn....and other times free soft drinks or water....there's no charge to join.....and i'll take everything that i can get...
biggrin.gif

as you all can probably tell i've gone back to almost exculsively seeing "art house" films....i have one more film to pay for before i receive a free movie pass from the club mentioned above...i plan on using this pass to see 'seabiscuit' at the big edwards in fashion island.......i've read the book, which i loved, and from what i understand the racing scenes are suppose to be fantastic....and i really want to see the movie on a bigger screen...and edward's adevertises their fashion island theater as the biggest single screen on the west coast.......so what better place besides the racetrack to watch horses race......

all for now...

Those are the only two French films I've seen. Must see more.
smile.gif

Will probably watch The Recruit today. Mmm... Colin Farrell...

I am so annoyed that the local art film theater, which is supposed to be screening The 25th Hour for two weeks, "sold out" and decided to screen The Matrix: Reloaded instead!
mad.gif

I mean, I know TM:R will make loads more money that The 25th Hour (which was on its second week, ending on Tuesday... supposed to be, anyway), but, dagnabbit, they should stick with their "word" of releasing a movie on that ONE screen for two weeks!

And it's not like there aren't enough screens in the vicinity carrying TM:L. Another theater - which is just a few blocks away from that theater - has 4 out of 5 screens of TM:L. And they're the same bloody mall to boot!

the title! Thanks Emilie.

I saw Dreamcatcher last night. Don't waste your money... avoid it as if your life depended on it. It's that bad.

I've finally watched it all this morning! Still not sure about the order of some of the actors/actresses, but it was great to see all the clips of the most famous people in the world. I loved that interview where someone said 'you know you can see Jack Nicholson's grin from space'.
smile.gif
Good to see my old fave Jimmy Stewart so high.

I've got Midnight Cowboy in my VCR ready to go - you know I've never, ever seen this movie, much to the disgrace of my mother, who lent it me about 11 years ago
smile.gif
So I'm taking a break from my Pacino run to give Ratso Rizzo a look in..

AND - after 18 months or so I've finally changed my avatar to reflect some of my favourite people - most of whom are movie-related!

I love French films - Amelie and 8 Femmes spring to mind, they were both amazing!

The film that has left the biggest impression on me recently is The Pianist - beautifully filmed, with a really powerful performance from Adrien Brody. Glad it won a few main Oscars!

A film I can't wait to see, at the risk of sounding cliche, is The Matrix Reloaded, but its been so long since the first film!

Neverland,Cold Mountain, Kill Bill, Le Divorce and X-Men 2 all look great too!

I was looking round the IMDB today, and discovered an upcoming film Picasso at the Lapin Agile - starring Kevin Kline, Steve Martin, Ryan Phillippe and Juliette Binoche.

Sounds exciting!

I'm sorry Laura you can't see the pic. I just sent it to you via e-mail, so hopefully you'll see it there

shrrshrr, I didn't see The Cat's Meow, so I'm sorry I can't help you out. I didn't even know it was based on a real mystery.

A couple of French films came out this week.
Le coeur des hommes written and directed by Marc Esposito - who was the Editor of the movie magazine Studio. He left a few years ago to write this screenplay. His movie is having great reviews.

And:
Bienvenue chez les Roze with Carole Bouquet. The movie is getting pretty good reviews.

Wow - Glenn Close looks fabulous as an older brunette! It's amazing what a hair chang can do to your looks.

Thanks for the new thread, Emilie, and yes, I have seen Lucas - your descriptions of the film jogged my memory. Must be a generation gap thing, because while I liked the film, I certainly wouldn't have raved about it. *considers checking it out again*

I watched The Cat's Meow last night, which was just okay (Kirsten Dunst was great!), but it raised a lot of questions in my mind about the real mystery. Too bad the extra features on the DVD didn't deal with that at all, so I guess I've got my research cut out for me.

I hope you don't mind I started our new thread with a quote from Lucas, since we were all talking about it

Old Thread

I spent all day yesterday working on reshoots for Le divorce. James Ivory was not really happy with the ending, so basically the scene will remain the same but we added other stuff - I don't want to give too much away
wink.gif
. It was really nice to see everybody again.
The movie was supposed to come out in June in the US, but now it's been pushed back to August. Maybe it'll go to the Venice Film Festival, hopefully
smile.gif

To help you wait for the movie to come out, here's a pic of Jean-Marc Barr, Glenn Close, Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts
