Hot rumor: The Nokia N8 with Symbian^3

What do you get out of an iPhone, Android or BB device that you don't on a Symbian device besides a better UI? Android really isn't ahead of anything and I'd kill myself before I had to use my Blackberry as my primary device again
 
Yeah, the reference was that Zoom something, forgot the name, but it was a TI OMAP 3430; which by the way was not used in the N97, so it is up to the manufacturer like I said. Remember that the Satio and N97 sold with the same "version." Who knows about the S^3 devices. However, the only one who is more likely to sell Symbian phones is Nokia, which have so far failed at a good N-product (ie N97 failure).
 
We don't really have good enough pics to tell how it looks but I dig how it looks.

I do feel that as a mass market phone, it's horribly bland. If a person saw most Nseries phones in someones hand they'd be able to recognize it, same with an iPhone, but this design doesn't really scream nokia. Not a problem for me as I like the look but we'll see how well it holds up in marketing.

I'm glad theyre using aluminum for the phone though. I just wonder which parts are plastic so the signal will go through.
 
You see this as desperate.... sounds more like intelligence with the fact that both of these are the largest in their respective fields. If anything, this should put other *platforms* on notice that Linux is more than a grassroots force.

Symbian should be thinking carefully here, but they are easily included with this. MS, Google, and even Apple have something to think about globally. Should be fun...

The mobile phone business as you think about it is dead. And MS is by no means trying to play there. The use the mobile as a piece to their strategy. And for that, WinPhone7 is a very nice play. Like Nokia with Ovi, they need things to be executed tight and well. That's all.

Oh yea, and enterprise IT depts just got sad; they lost their control and "elite prestige" since computing for the masses is what they now do normally. Just watch.
 
If you take a look at the link I posted, it'll make your eyes open wide, and if you read the first few page of test report 1, it mentions the phone has ALL 5 UMTS bands!
Including all 3 NAM bands, perfect for both worlds.
 
the couple of times I've been in an ATT I messed w/ an E71x each time....
it's so tainted it's not funny...
and the data requirements...
my mom has an E71-2 and when she was visiting it would've been 60.00 for her to tether if she used a branded device instead of an unlocked one...
she was going to purchase Joikuspot pro for VPN usage since the fam she was staying w/ didn't have Wi-Fi, but showing her how to tether worked better...
 
I suspect that the bulk of development is going into ^4. ^3 is, to be brutally honest, just something they're throwing together so Nokia can toss it onto a phone and sell it.
 
Does anyone really care about this phone with the HTC Evo 4G around the corner?? The N8 has already been left in the dust and will be forgotten quickly... Nokia needs to try harder I think
 
Nope, that's symbian^3. Where do you see an overhaul in the above screenshot? Looks almost identical to the N97.

This was the symbian^4 concept, which as you noted is a major overhaul:

Yup, I am using the 97 mini and it does have over 200MB free C Drive space.

I've installed all my apps and still have about 160MB as I type. This would have been impossible on the original N97. :p
