Hot rumor: The Nokia N8 with Symbian^3

Unless nokia mysteriously succeeded in making a multiple 3G band chip (and I don't think that's the case, as we would've heard something about it) there will be multiple versions of the phone.

Why does the nexus one come like that? The same reason nokia makes separate versions of their phones with european 3G bands and at&t 3G bands. That, and maybe they wanted to give t-mobile some exclusivity on the device to start with.

I expect to see this Q1 2011. Perfect.

Hopefully Messaging will have improved by then :D[/QUOTE

hehe. Oddly enough my posts have dropped in fequency because I'm enjoying USING my phone more and searching for resolutions to gaud awful issues that plague a particular platform that NO phone in this decade should've had to deal with. I don't have to rational nor argue what my phone is capable of as apposed to it actually delivering it!

I vote DMO to Jedi status!! He's got his finger, not thumb, on the pulse of the market.

I'll add that along with Symbian^2 onwards ALL hardware shipping with it is to be standardized on OMAP3 based chipset or ARM Cortex A8 minimum!

I too would like to see better Exchange (2003-2010) & Lotus Domino (8.01-8.1.5+; with IMAP)/Symphony/etc support.

Uh, most of the phones are bricks. A lot of the android phones are bulky, unless they don't have a keyboard. Take for instance the 5800. It is kind of bulky, but very light. The iPhone is a big phone in terms of height and width, but the depth is shallow. Most smart phones are bricks though.

I doubt we will see that on S^3, but rather S^4. As of now I think the Foundation is working at getting the packages working/functioning correctly and adding more features.

However, I believe that the only thing that will change is the UI "presses", which will be minimized/reduced.
S^3 is more of a reduction of clicks/presses on the UI (which Symbian has a ton of), and be implemented with more features. S^4 is where the UI/UX overhaul will happen.
If the rumor is to hold true and be launched in summer, or before xmas, then the Foundation has little time to get the UI/UX to get it to look like that.

Moreover, that was Nokia's proposition on a take at the UI/UX, which I think the Foundation hasn't accepted that completely.
Can anyone imagine having two teams do the S^3 UI/UX before the end of the year, which by then S^4 code should be out?
I think we have another-like approach as MS; WM6.5x will co-exist with WM7, so maybe S^3 will co-exist with S^4, since I doubt the Foundation will want to work on two UXs/UIs at the same time. Just my 2 cents

So anyway, about that N8... ;)

Still not sure I like the design too much, but it might be down to how it looks/feelks in hand in real life. There is not a huge amount of room for maneuvre for designers in the front facing part of such phones I guess. :D

So pretty much every developer out there won't be able to start developing (maybe sketch) on S^3, but have to wait until S^4 as it will have a complete re-do of the entire UI, and maybe UX/GUI. S^3 will give them a try at Qt, but nothing more.
The good thing is that S^3 is running on a dual Cortex A9 =].
So we will have to wait until S^4 to get the goods lol.

Windows Phone 7 looks amazing.

Honestly? Nokia should just go ahead full force behind Maemo now. No backing two different operating systems, or three if you count Symbian 3. As far as the high end of the market, it's their only hope of gaining credibility. That large market share lead in second and third world countries isn't going to hold forever (LG and Samsung are competing greatly here), and I think that they know that.

The phone business is now ALL about software, something that doesn't play to Nokia's manufacturing and logistics strengths. The hardware is going to turn into the PC hardware OEM business, i.e. fighting it out on razor thin margins, while the software guys get all the money and glory.

Update: Sorry early adopters. As of today, with the bizarre Maemo+Moblin combination= Meego, the N900 is unofficially abandon-ware. This partnership smacks of a me-too desperation.

Though Microsoft has a lot of market share numbers to make up, the cell phone business, like the PC business, is now all about Microsoft, Apple and Google, with the niche-enterprise status of RIM. Everyone else's software platform is on a death watch.

It doesn't matter if the hardware reference is based on TI OMAP 3 since it's up to the manufacturers to choose the hardware (ie SE used the TI OMAP 3430 on it's Satio, yet Nokia used a lower processor for its N97). Multi-core will be in S^4, but only used in S^5, which will be out in 2H 2011 (phones using S^5). Yeah MeeGo sounds awesome, but I'm leaning torwards WP7S.

Yeah it looks all over the place, but nonetheless it's different from others; you could say it was different like Intel's Moblin. As of now, I really think that the LG Apollo will be real and not fake :), hope so lol. With the bare minimum specs that MS wants on the WP7S phones then I'll have my dream phone :D

So, basically, given Nokia's history, if this rumor is true we can expect the N8 to release sometime in Q1 2011?

Also, what are the chances the N8 launches with more than 128 mb's of onboard RAM? :hehehe:
