As far as I understand the ROM images we are using to flash come directly from Samsung, no coocked, no hacked. Am I right?
If I am right, how can Samsung know it has been user flashed?

Hey again.
Okey so now im looking for a swedish/norwegian/dannish firmware (I read they were in the same firmware, but I'm just after the swedish).
It should be like "F480XB---".
Anyone has this? The swedish Samsung support wont give it too me :/

Regards Eric

I know motorola hong kong allows online update, they have a list of f/w for each phone for branded or non branded update, I dont think samsung allow you to update the phone yourselves, you need to take it to a sevices centre, in you case the third party company 3, o2 and i think T mobile is also uk (not been back to UK for 12 years) will take all responsiblity, they should do the update for you.

It worked then? I guess the T-Mobile settings are wrong and do not allow secure sites without the correct port etc

Wow sounds a bit scary this.

Im about rady to do a 1st flash, and hearing this tip about (re) writing the camera firmware was going to try. but think I might not now

Have you noticed any improvement when you upgraded? speed or anything?

cheers

last question honest!!
Will changing the firmware allow me to delete the "undeletable" files on the phone, such as ringtones and pictures?

Thanks again.

worked perfectly using the originally posted settings, thanks guys
(don't know what the guy above is on about)

the chinese f/w is from hong kong, you wont get korean language, only chinese and english.

they are two different phone, it depends on what you want to do with it.

F480/F488 is just a cute small touch screen phone, whiles the Omnia is a miniture mobile PC with functionalities running on windows.

Buy both if you can, that what i'm doing when the Omnia i908 is released in hong kong.

just want to let ppl know that I have the newestt f/w for the F488, just have to collect my phone from samsung service center later on to day, left it for them to flash it, my last f/w was F488ZHHF1 .

Hey guys, im wondering if the version F480XXHF7 will work in my area? My actual version is F48LUBHE3. I am located in Central America, my cellphone provider is TIGO. If anyone know a newer firmware that could help me I would be very thankfull! (the one I have now really sucks!!)

Thanks!

What about the camera please? is it improved? anything added? or is it just menus faster?

cheers

this is the error i got........

Download Start Ch[0]
ERR : NAK_VERIFY_FAILED 0
Error : OemSbl Write [7.1s]

some companies keep record or the imei numbers including the manufacturing date and the f/w it was supplied with, to rekonized the phone as their authorized product (not grey import), as for samsung phones, they also have a hidden engineering menu that keeps record.

When I took my phone for a flash, they said they had to check for unauthorized flashing.

and most roms that are on the internet are leaked roms, extracted from a phone, or take from the manufacture, some are also released on purpose to test the roms.

Phone speed seems a bit faster, upgrade works fine I think it was my fault no letting it finish the camera firmware write bu pressing confirm button. Just leave it to finish writing and it says "success" then you can exit. Every thing else works OK on the phone.

Omnia costs twice than Tocco but if you can't decide it means you can pay it. If you can pay it just do not think: buy Omnia.
It is not just a matter of CPU power, Windows Mobile is another world.
You will be able to do anything with it, almost like any Laptop.
For example you could install the best GPS naviagators all at a time like tomTom, iGo, Route66, Navigon, you are not limitated to Java (J2ME) games and navigators that takes data from the web each time you play them and it costs money.
Built-in WIFI and GPS are other great additional features compared with F480.
I like a lot the TVout feature. It gives you the chance to output your display over a bigger display screen when driving (lets say a car in-dash 7" display). Also you can play movies over your home TV screen.
With Windows Mobile you can play very advanced programs, running car diagnostics is another example.

Now some considerations NOT TO BUY Omnia:
A little bit bigger in size and weight, but still very very small.
Now a days a device of that category should have VGA screen (640x480), instead they enlarged the height from 320 to 400, so you get 400x240.
It is supposed to have same F480 camera witch is very very very bad (http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=584891). Try to buy it where you can give it back in few days if you do not like it, so you can give camera a try.
Make sure it does not have the limitation of playing videos at 15 fps like F480.
Windows Mobile and apps written for it (it could include Samsung Touchwiz front end) use to be more unstable and buggy compared with propietary SO (like F480). Resetting a WM device is considered very common practice. People having a WM devide like to have reset button very accesible.
Once you discover all you can do with Windows Mobile maybe you will spent with it more time than you have

In my particualr case once having my F480 for a couple of days I liked it so much that I was going to sell it...to buy Omnia!!!
But tha was just until I discovered how bad the camera is
