posted elsewhere, but now posted here....of general interest to this thread...

back to work....day 4 of a 10 day shift.....no more films for about 2 weeks.....these are the last of the movies that i saw last week....

'saving face'.....a gay themed film....about a pretty and talented, 28 year old chinese girl who happens to be a lesbian......the story involves her efforts to keep her sexual orientation a secret from her traditional thinking family......things are further complicated when her widowed and single mother becomes pregnant.....sexual situations, female nudity.....the word that best describes this film.....cutesy....as in too cute......

'mysterious skin'....(nc-17)....directed by gregg araki ('nowhere' 'the doom generation' 'totally f***ked up' 'the living end') and it's probably his most successful and accessible film, imo....

the plot....2 young boys, from kansas, are molested by their little league coach....they both handle that experience in a different way.....one becomes a male hustler and the other one blots out the memory by believing he was abducted by aliens....just plain weird.....sexual situations, male nudity, a sexual encounter between the male hustler and a man who has aids......a homosexual rape........a great cast....elizabeth shue ('leaving las vegas')....joseph gordon-levitt (from televisions third rock from the sun)......brady corbet (evan rachael woods older brother in 'thirteen').....mary lynn rajskub (24).....and finally michelle trachtenberg (dawn summers of btvs fame)....difficult subject matter, but well worth the watch if you can get past that...

Yeah I like that we got to see the man that was Harvey.

But in my opinion, the killer Dan White was portrayed as a human being with real emotions. Not as some cartoon villain that kills everything that's different from him.

I see "Everyone" has Carly Pope, from "Popular".

I rented the three movies by Gregg Araki starring James Duval. By far, my favorite was "Totally [Effed] Up", from 1993. It's the first, and hard to find. It's about gay teen suicide. It's very low-tech looking, esp. compared to "The Doom Generation" and "Nowhere". Because it is more realistic, it seems more like a story about recognizable people. There's no red corn syrup fake blood, and much less explicit whoopee, (the other two are almost cartoonish in this regard) but the sex and violence matter more, because the people do. Duval is heartbreaking as a depressed gay 18-year old. Here's a page with a review and some caps:

(oops- she used the name of the film in her filename, so the smutcatcher won't print the correct link. Go to the site above, then to the filmography, and click on the name of the film)

I hear that Amber Benson is in Latter Days. OMG now i really want to c it. Does anybody have a pic of her in the movie.

Thanks
Angie

The movie I'm really looking forward to seeing is Shelter. I've heard of it refer to as the surfer gay movie. But I also heard that it is quite good and I wonder when it's going to be on dvd.

Has anyone heard about it or seen it and can tell me about it?

mukooh: did u see mysterious skin? it is rated nc-17. it must be very dirty. i want to see it. hehehe :sigh:

btw did u see imaginary heroes with sigourney weaver and emile hirsch? i think it has gay themes in it?

i'm looking for a forigen movie about a teen boy who is coming to terms with being gay.

I think it's either german or french, I think he's the star of the swim team. He has a girlfriend and I believe a guy on the side. He is safetly hidden in the closet until a new male student comes to school. The two of them have a connection and the teen is outed by a rumor.

I think everyone ditches him, but his best friend and ex girlfriend. But he comes to terms with who he is and is happy in the end. It would only be a few years old.

There was a French movie I found by accident on youtube. It was about a young man who has a fake girlfriend for his parents. She's in on the ruse, he is made to work with a guy doing plants. The two men fall in love and begin a relationship. I believe the younger comes out to his parents and is turned away. The two lovers walk off into the sunset together...I think.

Does anyone know the title of the movie, I can't remember it and would like to.

Here's a link to a site with a trailer for Gregg Araki's newest movie, "Mysterious Skin". The site is in French, but when you start the trailer, it's in English (at least mine was; I suspect the site has some way of telling what country you're in):

I recognized the guy who used to play the youngest kid on Third Rock From the Sun, Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn on Buffy, and I'm pretty sure the actress who played Chloe on "24" last year.

It was shown at Sundance this January, so I assume it will be released in the US sometime this year.

passing through the thread....recently, through a friend i became a pre-screener of films that are being considered for submission to a film festival....i've probably watched 25 films...documentaries, shorts, features and animation....most of them have been pretty bad..........up until tonight i hadn't pre-screened a gay themed film......tonight i had the pleasure of watching 'everyone'.......it's a good film.....it's a canadian film......and it's probably better than most of the gay themed movies that i've seen in theaters recently.......one of the parts about being a screener is rating the films from 1 to 10...10 being best, 1 being awful....i rated 'everyone' at an :star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star:
if you should ever have the chance to see it.....i think you'd enjoy it....

snyopsis.....

Today's the day. Ryan and Grant, the model of a perfect urban gay couple are getting married. The ceremony is set to be a small affair with only immediate family on the invite list. What could possibly go wrong? The answer isn't everything; it's everyone, in this dark comedy from writer-director Bill Marchant.

Eilleen It was so touching. That movie shows a lot of passion and grief at the same time. I'm glad it got recognized with what it's worth. There are loads of gay films that doesn't get the recognition they should've had because mainly, it's about - homosexuals.

SASHA You should watch the Priest. The last scene shattered my heart into pieces - thanks to Linus Roache (who's so great!) and to the musicless effect.

Has anyone heard of the movie Dorian Blues? It sounds really good. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan of Sirsy and they are featured in the film.

The website is www.dorianblues.com

This is the synposis from the site:

It's also doing really well on the film festival circuit.

Yeah, they are getting better with gay themed movies. And i love depressing and sad, but still with a happy ending, kinda like Ethan Mao.

That looks interesting.

Hi, ANGELforBUFFY glad you liked Hedwig. Love it myself. Have you seen Velvet Goldmine? If you liked Hedwig, you may just like this one, it's also got glam rock. A home at the end of the world wasn't one of my favorite movies, but I loved the actors and actresses and think everyone did wonderful job. Hope you get to see Latter Days, it's a beautiful movie.
