posted elsewhere, but now posted here....of general interest to this thread...
back to work....day 4 of a 10 day shift.....no more films for about 2 weeks.....these are the last of the movies that i saw last week....
'saving face'.....a
gay themed film....about a pretty and talented, 28 year old chinese girl who happens to be a lesbian......the story involves her efforts to keep her sexual orientation a secret from her traditional thinking family......things are further complicated when her widowed and single mother becomes pregnant.....sexual situations, female nudity.....the word that best describes this film.....cutesy....as in too cute......
'mysterious skin'....(nc-17)....directed by gregg araki (
'nowhere' 'the doom generation' 'totally f***ked up' 'the living end') and it's probably his most successful and accessible film, imo....
the plot....2 young boys, from kansas, are molested by their little league coach....they both handle that experience in a different way.....one becomes a male hustler and the other one blots out the memory by believing he was abducted by aliens....just plain weird.....sexual situations, male nudity, a sexual encounter between the male hustler and a man who has aids......a homosexual rape........a great cast....elizabeth shue (
'leaving las vegas')....joseph gordon-levitt (from televisions
third rock from the sun)......brady corbet (evan rachael woods older brother in
'thirteen').....mary lynn rajskub (
24).....and finally michelle trachtenberg (
dawn summers of
btvs fame)....difficult subject matter, but well worth the watch if you can get past that...
