Expressvu price increase

I agree with you DJ!

But that is the point, when you compare the pricing in the U.S. you have to take a look at what they are getting for the money they pay. BEV doe's indeed get a fair $ for the channels/services provided.

BEV can/should be making a profit at the current price level they are at. They have twice as many subs as *C so their cost for "deals" to get subs is spread over a greater user base, so I still can't see why they are not making a profit at the current price level.

The problem as I see it is trying to get subs to buy the premium product like TMN/MC (which I suspect has a good profit margin for BEV) which I for one will currently not subscribe to as a westerner. MC has to get shows current, not months or a year after the first airing in the U.S. I also want the real MC-HD and I don't really care what excuses MC or BEV have as to why we don't have it. The fact of the matter is westerners are getting short changed compared to the east. If a premium channel like MC can't/won't provide the premium part of the programming, then maybe it is time to combine TMN/MC and use the resources across Canada to get the premium. This would definately help BEV's bottom line in freeing transponders as well as getting more people subbing to the product.

38% Price Increase For Themes! :o

I remember discussions around the time of the supreme court case decision on the legality of grey market systems that folks speculated Canadian DBS companies would hike their rates ......perhaps we can stop speculating...?

If this price increase is indeed a fact, I think current customers won't stand for a 38% hike and may think of switching providers...even if EXVu's major competitors Rogers & Shaw/Starchoice have had recent rate increases...

Also...the penalizing of customers who add or remove themes (even choosing one theme to replace another???)...and dinging them with the $8/theme price for doing that....is JUST LUDRICOUS !! Talk about locking in your customers, limiting their freedoms..and generally making them unhappy and unloyal!

I'm taking a wait n see approach...to confirm the validity of this "rumour"..and to see the theme bundling options being offered.

Altaman,

US - half the HD channels we get and you have to qualify for locals like WTF

Canada - over 25 HD channels including locals

When I had Directv I found very little programming to watch over my ExpressVU set up.

I am not making excuses for ExpressVu just merely pointing out the truth. BCE et. al. to me is the antichrist but still the best ride in Canada.

Crispy

Whats up with Bell lately? As of September they are dropping the $5 digital bundle discount, they no longer offer the $5 for 1000 min long distance plan, and now they are increasing their Satellite rates significantly. I guess I'm glad I got in last December while they were trying to scoop up customers. And now I'm actually HAPPY that I still have over a year left on my contract so that I don't get gouged right away.

Its funny because when they released the 9200 for such a good price, especially compared to Dishnetwork, I wondered how the heck they can make any money selling them for that price. I guess now we know how they plan to make the money back.........:(

I spoke to a CSR this morning and he told me the 8$/pack was only for peoples on the old price structure (before digital standard). The other would stay at 5$/pack.

Hope I haven't been mislead by the csr.

CSR`s should find out about the price increase within the next few days. All the info i posted is accurate...all i can say is wait and see!

Before everybody gets excited, I'd still like to see some confirmation of this. Is it a rumour? Can anybody confirm any of this?

Or should we change the title of the thread to "Speculation"?

The way I see it is very simple.

Competition in Canada is a joke.

As long Evu continues to have the subscribers base it has, as long as they continue to pay these increases will happen year after year.

The others they just ride along, because if one increases the others follow to pocket more.

I still dont understand how Evu with the sub base it has, being one of the most expensive subs and being subsidezed by Bce does not make money!!!

Even with all these increases it still isnt enough to break even.

I dont get it... How much longer will BCE shareholders tolerate this?

How do you figure $2? Its a $2 increase for Digital Standard PLUS $3 for each Theme Pack. It makes no mention of pracing for the package deals so we can only assume there is some increase.

Edit - Now I see, so as a bundle it is only $5 a pack.

Yes, but the HD package only has 5 themes for $57. It says I can add themes for $5 each.

Right now I'd pay $25 + $40 (themes) + $10 (HD) for a total of $75
After January $27 + $55 +$10 = $92
Or if I use the HD package- $57 + $30= $87

So my price goes up by $12. That's still a lot.
Here's a copy of the new price list:

I don't feel that we're getting hosed on MC necessarily. I enjoy their service. Is as good as TMN? Don't know, never seen it. Would we be better served by a single national service or competing services? You betcha!

So basically the price increase is to pay for the BELL TV Magazine that is included in the higher bundles.

Ken..

I have about the same package as you- HD + 6 Themes + Movies West + Digital Standard = $76.

I called Bell a few weeks ago to clarify the price increase. This is what they told me...(Your mileage may vary)..

Essentially they said I did not have to switch to any of the new packages (e.g. Max Value Combo, Ultra Value Combo, HDTV Value Combo) to avoid the $8 per theme price.

Bell essentially said that as of Jan 1st, Digital Standard was going up $2 a month and thus my bill would go up Jan 1st by $2.

My package is essentially the same as the new Ultra Value + HD = $78. Because my package is the same as the new Ultra Package..if I add a new theme the price would be $5...not $8.

If I had less then 5 themes..then I would be charged the $8 theme price..

I still hate the new packages and pricing with a passion..but what can you do eh?.

I've been a BEV sun for only 2 months and I'm already regreting switching from SC.I'm really thinking of paying the $100 to get out of my term.

it does sound a little too detailed to be a rumour, however, things change VERY fast in this company, so even if that is the info today, it still might change.

thanks for the heads up though.
