So does that mean, us that have 5 or more themes will get the expressvu mag, when they increase the price or for new customers only.

Haha .. So let me get it straight??? - Basic Package (regardless of how it is really called) will go UP from 25 to 27 bucks?

hmmmm ... 25 / 27 - that is 9.259... % increase.... :(

The funny thing is ..and somewhat ironically sarcastic ----> some people were saying: "Oooo..!!! The piracy will be over soon!!! ... Our rates WILL go down!! .. etc etc"...

Ya.. Right! :)

Seriously Ken what other response did you expect for this?

Do you think they would come out and tell you yes there will be an increase without officially saying it?

Be ready, it's coming.

and Venezuela is better than Canada, because gas down there is only 12 cents/gallon!

Do all of us receive the notice? I have friends they still don't receive the notice yet.
Bell used to do it many, many ways if you don't complain.
I had stopped my service for a couple of months two or three years ago and when I restarted my service. They forced me to choose their new packages (for a substantial rate hike). I asked why and the CSR told me that they were not offering the old packages any more. I just heard that my friend is still having the old packages I had a few years ago.
I learned my lesson so I asked specifically before I stopped my service the second time. I was promised that I would get the exact same programs when I restart my service. They force me to take their new packages again when I restarted my service.
Does the rate hike apply to all the customers or just the customers who have contract with them?

Ah no matter how you look at it, it is only a $2 increase for virtually everybody, only people it really effect is someone who takes two or less themes (if you take more than two you might as well go into the extra value bundle). A $2 price increase I can live with.

The last round of price changes had all the packages changed to $5 and $25 for the digital standard. The whole point was to simplify the pricing. Sabia has said he wants simplified pricing. Thats what they did at Bell Mobility and got rid of the hidden fees/charges. I would rather have Locals for $15, $5 theme packs(with channels that actually belong together..a music theme) and if they really want to increase their profit a minimum programming charge of $30..at least I would have some choice!

EV has kept their rates down and improved service while *C and cable have hiked rates. EV has some room to move. The catch up is quite a shock.

Here is how I see it. Now that Nagra 2 has been rolled out, EV does not need to worry about pirates scooping up cheap receivers and using them for free TV. They can now cut prices on receivers to match or undercut *C and cable. High receiver prices were a big disincentive to new customers. EV must make the money back on the receivers so they raise prices for new "low end" customers who just want basic or few individual packages. I suspect we will see a return to deeper discounts for people who subscribe to larger bundles of packages.

Geez... The $5 Bundle Discount was what was keeping ExpressVu on the level with cable offerings and with that gone their prices are now $5 higher and this to the mix and I'm not sure how they're suppose to gain subscribers.

In my opinion, Bell is kind of playing catch up on both Internet and Television fronts. Cable has had a pretty solid grip on Internet, since it got there first. Spoke with a friend of mine in an Outbound campaign and most people already have cable, because Sympatico wasn't around when they wanted to sign up.

Same dealie with Television. Most areas are set to go with cable and most people have the analogue package. Trying to convince someone to jump ship, lock in for 2 years, and have no guarantee they'll enjoy what they get is kind of hard to do. I know I wouldn't do something like that.

Bell is on the right track with their Rental Programme though, as it has made moving to satellite much more affordable. I remember a couple years ago doing research for myself and for a house with 4 tvs, asking to pay $400 x 4 was crazy. But now $2.50 x 4 isn't as bad.

I think Bell will target offers specifically for Bundles, instead of leveraging a monthly discount...for example, what you might see instead is:

Sign up for ExpressVu service and Bundle it with Wireless or Internet, and get a 5920 system for $0.

this type of offer would mean a slightly higher COA up front, but won't canibalize revenues on an ongoing basis.

just something to think about.

jeffer, who is simply giving his 2 cents.

Like most of you, I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the letter, $2 more for digital standard and $3 more per theme, I thought it would be a big bump for me. But at the end it worked out to be a $2 increase overall for me too.

For me, I often work away from home weeks at a time, it is usually quite painless to suspend my subscription with BEV up to six month at a time. Not so easy when I was with Shaw. Now if I can get similar services from Telus... don't need high speed internet or telephone services when I am not home...

With the price of gas, maybe we could all save money by getting the full $96/month package and staying home more.

The 9200's heat output should 'reduce' your home heating bill - LOL.

I am surprised that EVu increase to be as steep as it is though.

I wonder if there isnt more and more pressure inside to become profitable at all costs?

Well as I posted on another forum, there is a definate difference between us and our U.S. brethern compared to BEV.

T save typing here is what I wrote in another forum with repect to BEV/U.S. sat networks.

Alt - Ah a new fall season is coming to build up my posts :) BTW will have to ask Cheryl at the CRTC how her summer was, have not emailed them in a month or two! She feels like a relative!

Yeah thats the way I first saw it too.... but it's only a $2 increase for me too... $45 to $47... no big deal

Got a letter from Expressvu in the mail mentioning the increases exactly how the original poster stated. I must say the information proved to be extremely accurate.
