news flash...business aren't around to "break even"...profits are required to pay the bills.

shareholders are demanding more return on their investment...bce's share price has been rather flat the past three years...extra profit should help that out.

look at the price of gas in the last year...it has gone up by 35 cents/litre in the last year alone.

I'm still wondering how they are going to screw up the people on contract.

I should see a $3 price protection
and a $2 price protection?

Oh now, it makes it more acceptable the increase... It's only two bucks... how much are you paying already??

Here is a direct quote from the letter I received from Bell ExpressVu today -

"To continue offering you the best in TV entertainment, as of September 30, 2005, we will be increasing the price of our Digital Standard basic service from $25 to $27 per month and the standalone pricing of our various Theme Packs form $5 to $8 per month.

As an existing and valued customer, your current Digital Standard package rate may continue to apply until December 31, 2005. Should you change the number of Theme Packs to which you subscribe between September 30, 2005 and December 31, 2005, the new Digital Standard package and Theme Pack (including Value Combo) rates will take effect as of the date of your change. Otherwise, the new Digital Standard rate applies to you starting January 1, 2006, and the new Theme Pack (including Value Combo) rates apply starting when you change the number of Theme Packs. All new Programming that you order after September 30, 2005 will be priced as per the enclosed menu."

Individual Theme Packs are listed at $8/month on the enclosed menu.

So, as I read it, January 1, 2006 I will get a $2 per month increase. But as long as I do not change my Theme Packs I will not get any further changes. Only if I make changes will the new rate of $8 take effect ... I defintely won't be changing my Theme Packs until absolutely necessary!!!

By the way, I think that is a pretty poor way to run a company. Send out letters to customers that your own staff is unaware. Someone in upper management needs to have their hands slapped ... that is pretty shoddy!

I can understand price increases, but these are completely unreasonable. If someone wants to buy a slightly used 3100 receiver in good condition in about a year, I might have one available when my contract is up.And because of that, I may have to forgo my Expressvu.

for anyone who is currently bundled, be careful of making certain changes on your accounts...since the bundle discounts are currently grandfathered, some changes to accounts can cause the removal of the discounts, which of course, can not be put back on, as they don't "exist" anymore.

I still haven't received a letter yet! Is anyone else in the same boat as me? I was going to call in late next week to make a few changes before the end of the month, but I'm wondering if they have different time limits for different customers? Maybe I'll have til Oct 31st????

Shneebs.

Just got off the phone with Bell. Support guy stated that grandfathered plans will not have a price increase (i.e. ultimate 7 / 9 etc). Will believe that when I see it after a few months of bills.

I would caution against any information in this thread.
So far this is all speculation.
I might go so far as to suggest that you worry about the pricing increase if it happens and not until then.

Nem, who says let's not over react to speculation.

Except for the fact that the packages wouldn't be going up for those of us with more than 5; meaning a net increase of only $2.

When it was looking like a $17 increase for me, I was ready to jump ship.

nope you are protected. if you add or remove the movies channel or playboy tv u are protected has well.

if u remove or add a theme package then you will be on the new rates. Lets say you have 2 themes(sports1, sports2). Then you pay $5 each for them on the old system. If you drop 1 of the themes for another theme package you will be protected.

BUT lets say u have 2 themes & you 1 more then you will be on the new rates.

Hope that made sense.

So $47 package is not the "savings" but an "increase" over the old simular package / price? (..be it $2 dollars only or whatever..) Is that so?

I just got my BEV set up last week... I "Built my own combo" consisting of Standard Digital ($25) + 3 theme packs ($15) + HD package ($10) = $50.

However, I want to add one of the international channels ($10). If I add it next month, will my "combo" setup above go up in price to:

Standard Digital ($27) + 3 theme packs ($24) + HD package ($10) = $61?

Or will that be unaffected by adding the new channel? Basically, does the "price protection" become void with ANY programming changes?

You forgot the sarcasm tags there Joe. ;)

But seriously, this increase is close to what inflation is. When I thought it might be $10, I was starting to look over the fence to *C again.

Just heard from a little birdie that Shaw is also going to be increasing their prices next month.

I am paying $65 which is for 6 themes, the HD channels and the Superstations. In essence I could get the movies added for $13 more under the new pricing than I pay now, but will not until MC-HD on BEV is provided 24/7 like other providers (I am even missing Rome due to my protest :( ).

What I'm amazed by is how complicated Bell is making this price increase...contract vs no contract vs old vs new vs changes vs no changes vs dates and such. At least with Star Choice, its across the board and its said and done...nothing is left pending.

Will the $3/bundle increase affect those who have a "package" of 5 bundles? (IE "family favourites combo" or "sports fan combo"...) Because thats an awfully HUGE increase if it does. Star Choice just dropped their bundles to match Bell's price! Now what?!

I have the same package but no HD.....yet....comparing HDTV sets now.
I will also stay with the Ultimate 7 and add HD....if they give me any flak
I'll play a "different" game. :D

I have not received price increase letter yet.
