Bell used to carry Euronews but dropped it before 2003.

... CBC Sports Extra is the interactive service...

You missed my point which is simple: if Canadian content cannot stand on its own without the state legislating it, then it deserves its demise. We don't need to protect artificial jobs. Why can't the marketplace decide ??

And as I said, most of these "Canadian" channels are just repackaging US shows anyway buy WE'RE forced by CRTC inane rules to purchase them rather than the better US ones. I'd rather have Comedy Central than the Comedy Channel, the SCI FI rather than Space etc etc....

So there won't be a free preview of Al Jazeera English?

I understand why they don't want to add new channels to the existing packages, but why don't they start a new news theme pack with CNNi and Al Jazeera? They're not going to get many subscribers for these mini-International News packs.

it is a free preview until march 1st, 2010. after, i don't know what package it will be. my guess is the premium movies packages.

If sim-subing is a requirement of the CRTC, how come Shaw Direct doesn't have to do it? Something is not right with that statement up above.

i thought sundance channel was replacing the drive in channel maybe it will now be a separate channel or replace the doccumentry channel and when is history channel coming in hd

Not really interested in the aquarium channel, looks nice, but ...

Does anyone have any information on the two new channels licensed by the CRTC --- Superstar and TV-Time?

When will these be on air? Will they be on Bell (Plenty of room for them -- 4 Shopping channels -- Really!!)?

I have a 50" Plasma that I sit about 9 feet away from and the HD picture looks good to me. I hope with the 60" you're not sitting 9 feet away(too close)...so the difference shouldn't be too far off.

Look at what they have just released for record profits, land lines is what is hurting.

I knew that Bell owned their own satellites, but I didn't know they own Shaw's as well! Telesat is part of BCE, and see http://www.telesat.ca/ for the satellites they own. (You learn something new everyday, even by accident!)

I agree with those who think the Jays channel is a special situation. To set up a permanent Jays channel the team would have to make an application to the CRTC. I haven't heard of any such application and let's face it with the media concentration in Toronto such an application would be a major story in the media.

The following is a c/p by Donny Brook on another site which compares simsubs on Shaw Direct and Bell TV:

Simsubs - short for simultaneous substitution occurs when a Canadian OTA station buys the Canadian rights for an American show. Under CRTC regulations the Canadian station can have Canadian cable/satellite companies substitute the Canadian feed on the American channel in the Grade B contour area of the Canadian transmitter.

Shaw Direct has the technology to change channel maps on the fly. As a result simsubs are mapped by postal code. For example, anyone in Montreal watching Law & Order will see Montreal CTV on Detroit NBC, Toronto subs will see Toronto CTV ... etc for other major cities. Everyone else sees Detroit feed. This means that all Shaw Direct subs who choose their out of market US feed, ALWAYS sees the US feed.

Bell TV does not have this technology. Anytime any Canadian station requests a simsub, every Bell TV sub everywhere sees it.

You're missing the point. Why say pick an equal number you don'y want ? There are tons of so called Canadain channels...it would be impossible not to be able to find many one would not want,......very easy and lot's of choice. That's the point - choice that YOU make and not BELL picking 6 or 7 they want you to buy. By the way, did you not notice that ALL the bundles of Bell have more Canadaian channels than US ???? That's also a mandate of the ridiculous, useless CRTC

any idea what time that sundance channel and Wmovies will launch. so far their is nothing and sextv is still there but it red. and the channel drive-in classic not there anymore.

It looks like there will be 1 new channel in French; Zeste / Zeste HD

Starting March 22nd

I don't know about this one. CNNi has been the most popular news channel in the world outside of North America (where it's known as just CNN) for the last 20 or so years. It's not even intended for Americans.

Uplink for Jan 7 is showing 3 new SD channels?
All listed as SHOP channels but might just be a misc channel code for now.
Any ideas?
