Bell TV 2010 New Channels discussion

$34.00 /~100 channels = .34 cents per channel. I doubt that Bell is going to take .34 cents off our bills just because SCN has shut down.

What surprises me is there has been no loud outcry from the viewers in Saskatchewan. Doesn't anybody there watch SCN? Some of the local programming was interesting. I learned a bit about a part of Canada I've never visited. It wasn't at the top of my viewing list but it isn't the worst service offered by Bell (that honour goes to the umpteen dupes of the Shopping Channel that Bell has quietly added to clutter up the dial).

Sometimes you give some, something for less than what it costs you, so they spend more on something else. But that is not the case with Bell. Bell`s costs remain the same no matter if one person subscribes or 2 million. We would all save if we got all the channels for one price, no options.
But like digital basic, we get all those channels, but how many do you actually watch. Bell has to provide them, because of the CRTC, to each area so they give them to everyone, for one price no additional cost to them or to Bell.
The Digital Basic covers costs, specialty channels make the profits.
If you could pick just a few channels to have with your service, the cost of those few channels would be the same as what you pay for many.

A couple of weeks ago one person here said that Bell was going to introduce lots of new HD channels on Feb. 1. Well it's almost here. Let's see if he was right or just shooting the breeze.

If ever Bell was going to add Speed-HD...I pray it would be tomorrow...with the huge week of Daytona almost amoung us...it would be perfect!

I just thought I would make a suggestion for a replacement for SCN if I may. My suggestion is WPCH Peachtree TV Channel 294.

Anyone know whether Bell will wise up and offer your choice of channels "a la carte" in the near future ? I would switch tomorrow if it were available; I will not pay for bundles where I'm forced to pay for channels in which i have absolutely no interest.

Bell doesn't realize how many clients would switch if they made that small change - talk about Marketing savey.....

No NHL Centre Ice games during the Olympics, and no NFL games, etc, so they should be able to manage it.

I'm pretty sure they move bandwidth around to give the best picture for certain channels and events also.

You mean how ridiculous was your request? ;)

You certainly should have been given a supervisor, but what were you expecting the supervisor to do?

Until Bell changes the structure of the packages to give you that flexibility, a supervisor can't give you that (even if it does sound like a pretty good idea).

Just noticed it as well. Strange that they would only put it on the 800 series of channels and not the 1000 series as well.

You raise a good point about new channels. I think we can safely say that al jazeera is not just a rehash of what we already have here in Canada, but there are channels that seem pretty redundant. I think the Internet may just kill tv in a few years unless tv can somehow keep up. More HD is good. I'm not so big on 3-D.

I would consider CNNi and Al Jazeera for $3. But not if each are in a separate pack. I already get BNN.

That's a non sequitur. Groceries very often cost more than $60 to $100 a month. You know what I'm saying, and you choose to ignore it because you have no valid reply to it.

By the way, CFRB was just added to the basic service at no extra charge. How's that for perceived value? ;)

I think it is all Olympic-related. In a press release on ctvolympics.ca yesterday, they stated which channels and platforms would be used to broadcast. Interestingly, it noted that every minute of this coverage would be produced in High Definition, and two of the main broadcast channels listed are OLN and MUCH. So it is possible that those networks will choose to launch their HD channels to coincide with the Olympics to facilitate this, and would be made available on Bell at that time. Whether they stay on after the air after the Olympics remains to be seen, after all this is the provider that uplinked WFNHD for two hours to show a fishing tournament and then removed it.

does any of you have remark that when you select a channel in the 800 then when you press info on the channel and saying this channel will be moved to 1000's. so is this mean they finally going to get ride of the 800's channels! Also, when do you think they will add yoopa?

There are some that don't look at perceived value as a communist plot.
I apologize to those that wish to speak about new channels costs aside.

I would have been happier to have it added for Barrett-Jackson and the Rolex 24, but I wouldn't complain if it got added tomorrow. I still can't believe that they don't have it.

Let's get History HD and Newsworld HD added too. They need to be competitive.

Several posts edited or deleted. Please stick to the thread topic and leave personal comments out of your posts. Thanks.

Also, please stop the unnecessary quoting. It's a waste of bandwidth and makes threads difficult to read.

Has anybody heard anything about MLB Network coming to Bell TV. It would make sense to add it during Baseball Season.
