Sounds like you either fried a wire or fried the voltage regulator I'd check the wiring going to and from the battery especially going to the alternator then clean these connections with a wire brush , sandpaper and a file etc but again I suspect that you blew the voltage regulator or an in-line...

Well first off if the power steering fluid level was low then it means there must be some kind of leak in the power steering system , also from the sounds of it you might have a loose belt. Hope that helps and best of luck.
