Sounds like the transmission fluid and filter needs to be changed on it bec worn fluid or dirt etc can cause jerking or bucking but also Dodge uses chemicals in their transmission fluids and those chemicals are for bucking etc.
I'd for sure be checking the air filter , belts , plugs , wires , cleaning the throttle body , treating the fuel system with STP or Lucas gas treatment and also I'd change the gas filter on it and change it again after you treat the gas and use up a few more tanks of fuel. What you can do is buy a cheaper gas filter and find a mechanic that will change it for you for a flat rate if you can't do it yourself and the second time you change the gas filter install a better filter but remember gas filters should really be changed once a yr anyways.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way bad grounds or bad connections or rust or corrosion in the charging system from the battery , alternator , starter , engine block ground can cause such issues too.Clean the spark plug connectors that go to the ignition module unplug them one by one and clean the surface they connect to with a wire brush , sandpaper and a file bec bad connections there can cause such issues too.But from what you mentioned regarding putting it into a different gear it sounds like the transmission fluid etc.
Also keep in mind that transmission fluid and filters should be changed at least once every 3 to 5 yrs and if you know that your vehicle hasn't had it done in the last 50,000 to 75,000 miles get it done as soon as you can.
You'd be wise to check with the dealership regarding any factory recall or service bulletin issues or any program or flash updates for that vehicle exist. Also if you change the fluid and filter I believe it's best to get the transmission put into the learning mode via dealership or transmission shop and they should be willing to do it for free especially if they did the transmission fluid and filter changing work.Be sure if the problem comes back or still exists somewhat to have the transmission control module ground circuits checked out.
