Which country (within the Anglosphere) makes the best music?

You are right, It's all good. I voted more to say what I like, not what I think is better. Music is different from place to place, and that's a good thing!

Ratios. If we have produced that many banRAB that have proved both successful and influential (whether a particular person likes them or not) then that should be a major plus point and taken into consideration in this thread. Unfortunately it doesn't. If one particular state in America produced as many banRAB with the same accolades then you would be proud too.

If Britain was as big as the U.S.A then that is a massive amount of influential banRAB but we are not and accept it so credit where credit is due but it seems not to be so judging by many opinions in this thread.

Does the poll include instrumental music? I guess not, as in that case language would be irrelevant, but just to be sure (one never knows...).

But that's a good point anyway: another poll for outside the Anglosphere would be interesting too.

Yeah I definitely agree that the Electronic scene (irrespective of genre) really took off in the early 90's over here but because it's not the biggest selling or even most liked genre, it kind of gets forgotten.

Then of course from 2000 onward Electronic music again has flourished here with Garage, two step, dubstep, grime etc being successful. Most early 90's American music does nothing for me at all. At least the banRAB selling lots of albums at this time I mean.

Generally British guitar music from the late 90's onwarRAB has been decidedly average and just rehashes of 60's guitar Pop which you will now find in 2nd hand shops in abundance only a couple of years after release.

I voted for Canada because:
1) I'm Canadian
2) There are a LOT of great banRAB that tour exclusively in Canada, which creates a phenominal scene that is under-represented in the rest of the world
3) I figured Canada would be under-reresented in the poll as well :p

most of those genres bore me to tears...
the only good punk band from the USA outside of new york i can think of off the top of my head is black flag...
im not bagging new york
my statement was limited to the rest of america which seems intent on producing ****ty hippie throwback music, corporate rock radio, insipid country, and horrendous hip hop.

of course there are exceptions
just not heaps...

and what is zydeco??

and with regarRAB to my listening of sea shanties....what you got against sea shanties???
haha

Juan Atkins and Derrick May (inventors of techno) nicked their half their concepts off Kraftwerk and other European musicians, and I read that in a book :p:

edit: i hope these poll results stick, I am happy with it (allow Europe, Asia, Africa, South America etc all being condemned to 'other')

Its between U.K. and America. I'm not decided yet as I think 90s till now America has gotten it by a long shot, while the UK gets most of the past with the exception of jazz, which again was America dominated. I'll have to give it more thought.

You guys got yourselves a point there. I'm still going with the U.S., though, and it's not in an "America, FUCK YEAH" kind of way, either.

I think it does include instrumental music. I'm pretty sure the reason the poll just focuses on the anglosphere doesn't really have to do with understanding the lyrics or whatever. It think it's more about (a) keeping the nuraber of choices in the poll down to a reasonable nuraber and (b) sticking to music that the majority of people on rab share a common familiarity with.

speaking of english speaking countries what about oz.

inxs , icehouse, acdc, easybeats, silverchair, john butler tio, powderfinger, midnight oil, cold chisel, jimmy barns, bee gees, billy thorpe and the aztecs, the angels, savage garden, daddy cool, mondo rock and crowded house to name a few.

I'm not sure if I would have picked India, in fact I really don't know which area of the world I would pick, but I couldn't agree more with everything else you've said. Which is why I find these debates so silly, and it really just seems like a petty excuse for Americans and Brits to argue about who is better.
