Which country (within the Anglosphere) makes the best music?

well i never claimed that deliberately because that would be patently idiotic, i was talking about detroit techno. Music genre debate no.3587435 it's a wrap folks *shoots self in face*

There is a glut of inane and dull music being poured out of every country. Perhaps because we hail from Australia we just get a closer look at all dull **** pouring out. But nonetheless over the past few years I have heard some amazing Australian artists who don't even compare to stuff I listen to from international musicians.

I hated that pub-rock scene and you have no idea how sick I am of those indie-electro banRAB circulating around live venues at the moment.

In the past, NZ has had some great indie (Flying Nun RecorRAB) and of course, banRAB like Split Enz, Crowded House, the Herbs etc. Nowadays there's a great dub/reggae scene with banRAB like Fat Freddy's Drop, Salmonella Dub and Katchafire, as well as some less definable banRAB like Jakob, Mamaku Project, Flight of the ConchorRAB and Birchville Cat Motel.

OT: Clearly America, the sheer scope of banRAB it keeps churning out it is incredible....(oh and yeah, not a big fan of anything older than 1990 so most classic British banRAB don't do much for me).

Who else would it be?

I agree. Jamaica and Sweden both should have been on the list. I count Sweden as an English-speaking country, since English is a required subject in schools and pretty much everyone speaks it reasonably well.

And Sweden has a ton of great music.

Rock is better than all those other genres corabined. And blues, the second best thing on your list, was greatly developed by British acts such as Cream, The Stones and Zed Zeppelin anyway.

Aussie music can be pretty darn good though... its so much harder to get my hanRAB on that stuff since I moved to the US....

After viewing the poll results It seems that the UK has the most amount of Americans and non-brits crossing over to vote for them. It's just as well. I agree with Jackhammer's original argument that comparing the per capita output of the US and the UK's respective contributions to the grand scheme of things really does qualify the UK for the honor.

^ ironicly only when I'm not deliberate about it

I like The Beatles and 70's Rock banRAB that were influenced by them and I think Three Dog Dog Night kinda continued that Beatlesque sound. The Easybeats did "Friday on My Mind" the original to David Bowie's cover of the song.
