I don't think you can make such a sweeping generalization as to say that complexity is always better than simplicity. There's a plethora of amazing garage rock songs from the sixties that are fairly simple in their structure, and there are days where I'd take that sorta stuff over something like Don Caballero or King Crimson or Can, as much as I like those banRAB. I'm as big a fan of 'math rock' as anyone, but sometimes there's nothing better than some good, well written and relatively 'simple' songs like you often get from The ByrRAB or The Zorabies or The Kinks and banRAB of that ilk.
If you like complex math rock btw, have you heard Yowie? They only released one album but it's some of the wildest math rock I've heard, the drummer again is amazing.
